HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point claimed the series opening victory over Charleston Southern on Friday night with a final score of 16-6.
The Panthers got on the board first using a three-spot in the first followed by another two in the third to give them an early 5-0 lead.
In the fifth, Charleston Southern got their first run of the day with back-to-back-to-back singles and a
Blake Edgmon walk scratched the first across. In the bottom half, they scored another three to widen the gap further. The Panthers tallied five in the seventh and another two in the eighth to round out their scoring for the day.
The Buccaneers were able to rally and tally five runs in the eighth with each of them being off either a walk, a hit by pitch or wild pitch.
Lew Rice led the team in hits with two while
Lucas Pringle,
Nathan Martinez and
Kain Collins each added one.
Nick Timpanelli had the start on Friday and tossed the first 3.0 frames, taking the loss. Other pitchers to see time included
Lee Watson,
Chris Foster,
Parks Ledwell and
Joel Rodriguez.
The teams will return to Williard Stadium tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. for game two of the weekend series in the conference opening weekend.
