COLUMBIA – Charleston Southern Men's Track and Field completed their time at the 2025 Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday afternoon, finishing at the league runners-up. This is now the fifth time in school history that the Bucs have finished that high, totaling 128 points.
The Buccaneers had a pair of event champions during the day and had a pair of student-athletes claim "of the year" awards.
Micah Gilpatric was selected as the Men's Most Outstanding Athlete for scoring 26 points and
Michael Calhoun as the Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Luciano Custodio won the 400m and Gilpatric won the 3K title.
Custodio recorded a personal best time of 47.22 in the finals of the 400m, running the time in the first heat of the race. His time comes in at fourth in school history and eighth all-time in league history for the event.
Gilpatric continued his dominant week with a victory late in the day in the men's 3K. He ran a time of 8:11.18, becoming the second ever Big South student-athlete to win the event and ran a time faster than 8:12.00. The Buccaneers were able to have three others score and had all five of their entrees place in the top ten.
Jaden Kingsley ran an 8:13.17 for a podium finish with third while
Griffin Gillespie recorded an 8:13.23 for fourth.
Zack Wedding claimed eighth at 8:24.77 and
Hayden Goode was tenth at 8:27.57.
The distance crew also had an incredible showing in the mile, going 2-3-4-5-6. Gillespie took second overall a personal best of 4:05.72 and remains in fourth in school history. Gilpatric had his third podium finish of the event in as many tries, taking third with a 4:06.05. Rounding out the Bucs performers were Kingsley in 4
th at 4:09.25,
Martin Iriondo in 5
th at 4:09.25 for a personal best (7
th in school history) and
Collin Kleinhen in 6
th at 4:12.21.
In the 800m, Charleston Southern had three people score in the event.
Liam O'Donnell took fourth with a personal best of 1:52.36 which is fourth best in school history. C. Kleinhen claimed fifth with a career best of 1:52.86 going to fifth in program history and
Kaden Kleinhen was eighth in 1:54.41.
The final event that the Bucs competed in was the weight throw with them having a pair of student-athletes score in it.
Dexter Ratliff was second overall in it with a heave of 18.59m.
Michael Calhoun had a season-best in the event with a 16.64m for fifth. They fielded a team for the 4x400m relay, but did not finish due to an injury on the final leg of it.
The meet concludes the 2025 indoor season for the Buccaneers. They begin the outdoor season at the Weems Baskin Invitational which will be held from Friday, March 21 through Saturday, March 22.
