BOSTON, MASS. – Charleston Southern Women's Track & Field concluded their action on the weekend at the David Hemerey Valentine Invitational on Saturday evening. The Buccaneers had a pair of distance runners compete in the 5K at it with this being billed as one of the nation's premier meets for the weekend.
Sarah McCartney and
Keerstin Augustin were the pairing that the university sent to compete. This marked each of their second times racing in Boston this season as they were in the 5K at the Sharon-Colyear Danville Season Opener also hosted by Boston University back in December.
McCartney was the top finisher between the two and had a time of 16:37.23 in the fourth heat while Augustin posted a time of 17:00.09 in the fifth heat at the meet. Neither time ranks as a career best for the student-athletes, but each were just seconds away from their personal bests set back in December on the same track that rank #1 and #2 all-time in school history.
Charleston Southern will be back in action next Saturday for the USC Open to conclude the regular season. The following weekend they will compete in the Big South Championships which will be held from Friday, February 28 through Saturday, March 1 on the campus of the University of South Carolina.
