COLUMBIA – The Women's Track and Field kept going on this weekend with the team taking part in the Gamecock Challenge.
Sarah McCartney and
Chloe Greene turned in dominant performances during the meet to add to their growing lists of achievements this indoor season.
The most eventful races of the day came in the women's one mile with the top nine times in the event being under the facility record coming into the day.
Sarah McCartney claimed seventh overall in the race with her time of 4:51.53 in the top heat while
Keerstin Augustin won the second heat with her 4:56.83. McCartney's time broke her own school record in the event while Augustin's comes in at second now in the school record books. McCartney now has broken the school records in the mile, 3K and 5K this indoor season with Augustin now holding the #2 times in program history for each of those events as well.
Greene had a big personal best in the 600m with her time of 1:34.00 to win the race. This ranks as a new personal best and shatters her school record in it with it ranking at 3
rd in Big South history. She also competed in the 60m hurdles and ran a leg of the 4x400m relay at the meet.
Brenda du Toit also raced in the event and had a time of 1:38.79 to claim 7
th in the event. Her time ranks at second all-time in school history now, just behind Greene.
Grenisha Thomas had one of the top days of her indoor career on Saturday. She recorded personal bests for the indoor 60m and 200m at the meet with her time of 7.53 in the finals for 5
th and 24.68 for 7
th. Her times come in at 5
th for the 60m and 8
th in the 200m in the school record books.
Other high-performing sprinters on the day included
Nourhan Hassan with a 7.781 personal best in the 60m and
Austyn Koppe's 6
th-seeded 8.614 prelims time in the 60m. She ran a personal best during the day in the 200m as well with a 25.65.
Maddie St. Louis claimed third overall in the 400m and had a time of 56.98 to show for it.
Caroline Aslerin had a top-ten finish in the event as well with a 58.525.
Moving into the distance events,
Charlize Antia was the Bucs' highest-finisher in the 800m with her 2:19.68 for tenth-best in CSU history. In the 3K,
Sarah Jacobs and
Taylar White each recorded personal bests. Jacobs had a time of 10:07.84 and White went 10:21.33 with their times coming in at 6
th and 10
th in school history for the event.
The women's distance medley relay squad included Augustin, Chloe Mae Wilks,
Freya Buglass and McCartney with them having a time of 11:50.70 for third. The time ranks as third in school history as well. They fielded a pair of 4x400m relays at the meet taking 4
th and 7
th overall. The top team had a 3:48.01 with it including St. Louis, du Toit, Aslerin and Thomas and now rank at 5
th in program history. The other group featured
Sophia Cupp, Greene,
Maeva Tahou and
Ruthika Saravanan.
Charleston Southern will return to action in two weekends. From February 14-15 some members of the squad will be sent to Lynchburg, Virginia for Liberty's Darius Dixon Meet while others will head to Boston, Massachusetts for the David Hemerey Valetine Invite.
