CHARLESTON – The Ohio Valley / Big South Football Association announced the winners of the weekly awards on Monday morning. Charleston Southern's
Justin Waters claimed the Defensive Player of the Week award following his career day at Gardner-Webb this weekend becoming the first award of his career.
Waters finished the day with 19 tackles, tying the OVC/Big South record for a single game in the category. He becomes one of just eight players in FCS football to have that many or more in a contest this season. In the fourth quarter alone, he collected nine tackles.
Additionally, he forced two fumbles to bring his season total to seven and increase his national lead in the category across all levels of NCAA football. He had the second one come in the red zone, ending a potential scoring drive for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the third.
Charleston Southern will be back in action this weekend as they will be hosting nationally ranked foe Tennessee Tech. The kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Buccaneer Field with the game to be available live on ESPN+ with Justin Biegel and Ford Werness on the call.
