CLEMSON – Charleston Southern men's track and field turned in yet another solid day at Clemson's Orange and Purple Invitational to conclude their time at the meet. They broke a pair of school records and had five new top ten marks in program history recorded in Saturday's action.
The men's distance medley relay squad for today shattered the school record in the event with their time of 9:50.36, more than seven seconds faster than the old record. The Bucs edged out the squads from Georgia Tech, Alabama and Clemson as well in the race to win the event. The time comes in at third-best in the history of the Big South as well. Charleston Southern also put together a "B" team for the event and they performed just as well, claiming 4
th in the meet and notching the third-fastest in school history with a time of 9:59.22.
After
Michael Calhoun threw a personal best in the indoor shot put at the season opener, he bested it again. This time he threw 17.59m/57' 8.5" at the meet claiming 6
th in the field and moving into solo 8
th for the event in the history of the Big South.
Odin Ferency also had a solid showing as he had a season-best of 15.12m/49' 7.25".
Kaden Kleinhen continues to make his presence known in the school record books after just his second meet. He ran in the 1K last time out and had the second-best time in program history for the event and this weekend, he competed in the 800m and had a time of 1:53.32 which comes in at 4
th in the school records.
Mason Raasch also raced in the meet and collected an indoor personal best time of 1:55.45. His time comes in at 11
th in the school records for the event.
In the men's 3K, the Buccaneers were led by
Martin Iriondo and
Hayden Goode. Iriondo finished with a personal best time of 8:21.25 to claim 9
th in school history for the event.
The Bucs will return to the track next weekend as they will go to Columbia, S.C. to compete at the Gamecock Challenge on Saturday, February 1.
