Keshunti Nichols Goes for 25 Points in Road Win over Blue Hose

CLINTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's basketball team got back on track Wednesday night, as Keshunti Nichols scored a career-high 25 points to give the Buccaneers a 71-58 win inside the Templeton Center. 

After a tightly contested first quarter, the Buccaneers (7-12, 3-3 in conference) outscored the Blue Hose (4-15, 2-4 in conference) 26-16 in the second quarter, taking a 37-26 lead into the locker room. It was at the 6:38 mark of the second quarter that the Buccaneers took the lead, as Catherine Alben made a pair of free throws to spark a 13-2 run that was capped off by a jumper by Saniya Jones with 3:06 to go in the first half. 

In the second half, the Buccaneers continued their momentum, as they began the third quarter on a 10-0 run highlighted by a pair of three-point field goals from Mya Dotson, who finished with 10 points on the night. The Charleston Southern lead reached 20 points on a fast break layup by Alben with 6:53 to go in the third quarter.

Presbyterian did not go away in the fourth quarter, as the Buccaneers allowed the Blue Hose to trim the deficit to single digits with a layup with 4:53 to go in the fourth quarter to make it 64-55. After that, the Buccaneers went the rest of the game without allowing a field goal. 

Nichols was 10/16 from the field on the night along with six rebounds. Madison Adamson led the team in both rebounds with nine and assists with six. She had nine points on the night. Charleston Southern turned the ball over a season-low 11 times while forcing 19 takeaways

The Buccaneers will head home this weekend, as they will host the UNC Asheville Bulldogs for Alumni Day on Saturday beginning at 1:00 PM at Buccaneer Fieldhouse. It is the first of a doubleheader with the men, who play UNC Asheville at 3:30 PM.
