Baseball Clinches Series at Longwood Behind 19-10 Win on Saturday

FARMVILLE, VA – Charleston Southern clinched the series win at Longwood on Saturday by a final score of 19-10 in the second game of the weekend. The Bucs jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and never looked back, cruising to the victory.

Following the win, Head Coach Marc MacMillan said "It was a good win on #SwingDay! The offense was relentless and was led by quite the day from Evann Long. The bottom of the order did exactly what we want it to do – get on base any way, any how – scoring nine times as well as adding five RBIs. I want our starting pitching to give us more innings, but Ram was outstanding, once again, in relief."

The Buccaneers got on the board again early this series, scoring four runs in the second inning. Christian Bauman sent a double to center with Lucas Pringle and JJ Rivera each drawing walks to load the bases. Alex Urlaub then walked as well to bring home the first run of the day. Evann Long stepped up later with the bases still loaded and sent a double to left field to clear the bags and put them ahead 4-0.

In the third, Charleston Southern scored more with the Lancers surrendering four consecutive free passes courtesy of walks and hit by pitches. Rivera's HBP brought home the first runner. Urlaub was next up and reached on an RBI fielder's choice as they got the out at third. Cade Conway was next and slapped a single to left field to score Rivera with the inning ending on Urlaub being thrown out at home, leaving the score at 7-1.

In the bottom half of the frame, the Lancers got on the board, scoring a run. They loaded the bases with an out and were only able to score one of the runners with it being on an RBI groundout.

The Buccaneers notched their 8th of the day in the 5th inning. Pringle got a leadoff walk and moved to second on a Rivera sacrifice bunt. Urlaub sent a double to left that scored Pringle and moved them ahead at 8-1.

In the 6th, the Lancers scored a pair to cut their deficit to 8-3, but the Buccaneers loaded on six more runs in the 7th to stretch back out their advantage, now to 14-3. Long and Tuupo each had an RBI single while Peter Werth had a three-run homer to left field later in the inning.

Longwood scored some runs late in the ballgame. They tallied one in the 7th to with two in the 8th. In the 9th, the Bucs recorded an extra five runs to stretch their lead out even further. However, in the bottom half of the final inning, Longwood tallied four.

Long led the team in hits with four on the day. Conway, Tuupo and Bauman each had multi hit games as well with two hits apiece. Miller, Werth, BJ Banyon, Pringle and Uralub finished with one each. There were a trio of Bucs to collect four RBIs in the game with Long, Conway and Urlaub. Also at the plate, Conway and Pringle each drew three walks to contribute to the total number of 12.

Parks Ledwell had the start for the Bucs and threw 2.2 innings allowing three hits, two walks and one earned run. Anthony Ramirez was next out for the Bucs and threw 4.1, allowing two hits and a walk to go with an earned run. Tyler Henshaw pitched in the 8th inning, allowing two runs. Ryan Daugherty recorded a pair of outs in the final frame while Devin MacWatters got the final out.

The teams will return to Buddy Bolding Stadium tomorrow afternoon for the series finale. The action is scheduled to get started at 1:00 p.m. in Farmville with the action available live on ESPN+.
