ATLANTA – The Women's Track and Field team completed their 2024 outdoor regular season on Saturday at the Yellow Jacket Invite hosted by Georgia Tech University. From top to bottom, this ranked as one of the Buccaneers' best showings at a meet all season with a pair of school records being broken along with multiple additional new top ten program bests set.
Charleston Southern's
Destiny Wallace finished in the top ten for the 100m at the meet. She recorded a time of 11.84 in the event. She nearly recorded a personal best in the 200m as she finished with a time of 24.32, just hundredths of a second away from that top mark.
In the 400m,
Amaya Johnson improved her career best time in the event by running a 54.83, however remains in 5
th for school history for it. She took 7
th in the field and had
Dylann Core close behind at 55.26 for 9
th.
Maddie St. Louis recorded a new personal best time of 55.52, 13
th overall in the field and now 8
th best in program history.
Akagi broke the school record in the 1500 during the meet, moving up from second in program history to the top spot. She recorded a time of 4:28.32 to take 10
th overall in the field and second in her heat.
Freya Buglass was the next finisher for Charleston Southern with her time of 4:34.94, winning her heat. The time was a personal best and now ranks as the third best in program history.
Kallie Henderson ran a personal best time in the 5K with her time of 17:43.10, she continued to drop consistent times every lap and moved up eight spots in the field over the final mile. Her time now ranks as the 8
th fastest in CSU history.
Austyn Koppe nearly ran a personal best in the 100m hurdles as she finished with a time of 13.97, taking 5
th overall and winning her heat.
In the 400m hurdles,
Jewel Ash took 4
th overall in the race with a time of 59.57. The next three finishers for the Buccaneers all ran personal bests in the event.
Chloe Greene had a 60.54,
Brenda du Toit had a 60.75 while
Grenisha Thomas had 60.92. Greene and du Toit remain in 4
th and 5
th in CSU history while Thomas moved up to 6
th overall.
Taylar White recorded a slim personal best time in the 3K steeplechase as she crossed the line at 11:13.78 and remains 8
th in program history for it. She finished 10
th overall in the field.
Greene also had a tremendous showing in the long jump. She recorded a career best in it with a mark of 5.92m (19' 5.25"). The leap moves her up from 8
th to 2
nd all-time in school history.
Zemaya Carson had a tremendous showing in the shot put finishing third overall. Her best heave was a 14.79m (48' 6.25"). In the discus she recorded a 48.23m (158' 3") to take second overall in the field.
Josie Ankney had a career best in the discus with a throw of 43.40m (142' 5") to take 7
th all-time in CSU history.
The day ended on the 4x400m relay with the Buccaneers breaking the school record in the event by nearly a full second with a time of 3:38.64 to win the whole event. The relay consisted of Core, Johnson, Thomas and Ash and improves on the time that the group set at the Florida Relays last month. The time places them 4
thall-time in Big South history for the event.
Charleston Southern will now turn all their attention towards preparation for the Big South Championships in two weeks. This year it will be held at High Point University taking place from May 6-8.
