The Citadel Takes Down Charleston Southern on Tuesday Night

CHARLESTON – Charleston Southern dropped their midweek action to The Citadel on Tuesday night by a final score of 4-0.

"I thought both teams pitched it really well. We did not do anything offensively to put any pressure on The Citadel," said Head Coach Marc MacMillan."They struck out 11 batters and turned four double plays. That is nineteen of the twenty-seven outs we get! While we were not charged with any errors, we had opportunities to get off the field allowing no runs to cross the plate but could not play catch. When we did not take care of the ball, they got the timely hit and scored runs."

In the second, the Bulldogs got on the board first scoring on a sacrifice fly to get ahead 1-0. In the third, Javier Crespo hit a two RBI double down the left field line in the third to move the score to 3-0. They got their fourth run of the day in the fourth inning off a groundout.

Neither team scored for the rest of the game with the score sitting at 4-0.

Charleston Southern pitching staff used five pitchers in the game as Nick Timpanelli got the start for the evening. He threw 2.0 innings allowing one run. Brett Gastman was the first out throwing an inning allowing three runs. The rest of the night, no one allowed a run with Devin MacWatters being the next out of the bullpen. He threw 3.2, allowing just two hits and a walk. Ryan Daugherty and Christian Robb each received an out. Tyler Henshaw got the last two outs of the game.

The Bucs at the plate collected four hits with Cade Conway, Chandler Tuupo, Brock Kuehler and Hayden Henry each had a hit. Dakota Miller drew three walks while Peter Werth and John Emendorfer each had one as well.

The Buccaneers return to the field this weekend to take on Creighton at Nielsen Field at CSU Ballpark. The first pitch for the Friday game is for 5:00 p.m. with Saturday to serve as a doubleheader with games at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
