CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern dropped their first midweek action of the year with a 15-4 loss to their crosstown rival in The Citadel on Tuesday. The loss puts the Buccaneers at 2-2 on the season.
The Bulldogs got ahead early in the contest as they scored four runs in both the first and second innings. Charleston Southern got their first across in the bottom of the second, but The Citadel put up more to try and shut the door on the Bucs, notching seven in it and getting ahead 15-1.
Devin MacWatters got the start and
Lee Watson came on in relief for the Bucs first.
Once the team got to their third pitcher of the game, they started to get rolling in the contest and keep the visitors off the scoreboard.
Parks Ledwell, Ryan Daughety,
Christian Robb,
Tyler Henshaw and
Collin Kratzer each recorded a shutout inning. Every pitcher that saw action today marked a season debut for them with almost everyone having this mark a D1 debut as well as a collegiate debut for them.
Chandler Tuupo got his first home run of the season in the contest sending a two-run bomb over the right field wall in the bottom of the eighth.
Cade Conway had a pair of hits and walks in the game. Tuupo had a hit and a walk.
Christian Bauman,
Gavin Bogdanchik and
Lucas Pringle all had one hit in the game.
Charleston Southern will be back in action this weekend as they will face Lehigh for a three-game weekend series. The first game is going to be on Friday with the first pitch for it scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
