COLUMBIA, S.C. – The indoor track regular season finished on Saturday for the women's team at the USC Open on the campus of the University of South Carolina. The Buccaneers ran a pair of 4x400 relay squads with them being some of the team's top performances on the day.
Charleston Southern raced two squads in the women's 4x400 with neither disappointing in the event as they went 1-2 overall. The A team of
Amaya Johnson,
Jewel Ash,
Grenisha Thomas and
Dylann Core had a time of 3:43.14 for first overall and less than a second off their time from a few weeks ago when they set a program record and a top time in conference history. The B team slotted themselves in at 5
th all time in CSU history with
Sophia Cupp,
Maddie St. Louis,
Chloe Greene and
Brenda du Toit making up the squad.
Destiny Wallace slotted herself in at 2
nd in the prelims of the 60m with a time of 7.62 and then ran a faster time of 7.59 in the finals to take 5
th overall.
In the 200m,
Amaya Johnson placed herself in the school's top 10 for the event with a time of 24.82 for 4
th in the field. Ash and Thomas each were in the top 10 as well as they had times of 24.96 and 25.33.
Core had a great showing in the 400m dash with a time of 56.52 to take second overall in the event and have the top time of all collegiate runners at the meet.
Freya Buglass improved on her 800 time from her last time out as she dropped over two seconds on her previous PR with a 2:17.27 to go from 9
th in school history up to 4
th.
In the 60m hurdles, Chloe Maé Wilks went 8.87 in the prelims to be seeded 3
rd with the top time of collegiate runners in the event. In the finals, she went faster with a mark of 8.79 for 2
nd overall.
Greene set a personal best in the high jump during the meet going for 1.62m (5' 3.75"). This moved her up to 3
rd in the school's record books after being in 7
th entering the season.
The Buccaneers will now look to regroup and continue preparations for the Big South Championships that will be held next week. The meet will take place in Blacksburg, Virginia on the campus of Virginia Tech with action to begin on Friday, February 23 through Saturday, February 24.
