NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern softball team closed out the 2024 CSU Kickoff Tournament with a 5-2 win over the Bellarmine Knights on Sunday, as
Annah Junge threw a complete game.
The Bucs (3-3) got the scoring started in the second inning, as
Carsten Sandvig knocked a triple to center field on the first pitch. She came around to score on a groundout by Maddie Lee. Bellarmine tied it in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double.
Charleston Southern regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning.
Weslin Jones led off the inning with a single and scored on an RBI double by Junge who also scored on the play because of a throwing error by the Knights.
Bellarmine made it 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning with three hits of their own, but that is all that Junge allowed. The Bucs added some insurance in the top of the seventh inning, as
Gracie Prince came off the bench and lined a double down the left field line, and
Weslin Jones made it 5-2 with an RBI single.
Junge picked up the win to improve to 1-2 on the season. She went 7.0 innings allowing two runs and striking out four batters.
Weslin Jones continued her strong start to the season, as she went 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Sandvig went 2 for 3 with a run scored.
On Deck
The Bucs are off until Friday, Feb. 16 when they host another tournament featuring St. Johns and UMass Lowell. Their first game is at 3 PM on Friday.
