Bucs Add 24 Players During December Early Signing Date as They Prep for 2025 Season

CHARLESTON – Charleston Southern opened their 2025 early signing period on Wednesday morning and signed 24 players for the upcoming fall season. The group went heavy on defensive backs as they are bringing in seven and are continuing to build the Georgia and Florida pipelines as the class features 17 total players coming from there.
 
Following the completion of the class turning in their agreements, Vince Giardina, CSU wide receiver/recruiting coordinator, said "Today was a great day to be a Buc! Our staff recruited an unbelievable group of young men that will impact this team immediately. It is a joy for me to be the recruiting coordinator for a head coach who puts such an emphasis on recruiting the right young men for us on and off the field."
 
The Buccaneers continued to add to their skill position group with three wide receivers, two running backs and a tight end. Kevin Boone highlights the group as a three-star recruit hailing from nearby Moncks Corner, South Carolina according to 247sports.com and ranks as the #40 wideout prospect in the state in the class of 2025. Joining them is a dual-threat quarterback named Caden Clay from Valley, Alabama.
 
Inside the trenches they are adding four players each on the offensive and defensive lines. Ramell Parker will be joining the offensive line and has accumulated over 150 pancakes blocks between his two final seasons at South Sumter High School.
 
Rounding out the class are two linebackers and seven defensive backs. Each are going to be bringing varied skillsets with them to the Bucs as they look to continue to build for the future and stay as one of the top pass defenses in the Big South/Ohio Valley Football Association as well as all of FCS.
 
The state-by-state breakdown for the group has Georgia leading the way with 11 total signees. Florida is the next state with the most representatives with six. They are brining in four players from South Carolina, two from North Carolina and one from Alabama to complete the class.

His best season came during his junior year where he had 45 catches for 727 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns and followed it with his senior year totals of 11 games played with 24 receptions, 502 yards and six touchdowns ... Best game of his career came during his junior season where he had five catches for 184 yards and three touchdowns ... Helped lead Willow Springs to their first playoff appearance in his senior season in over three years ... Was also on the track & field team where he was an two-time All-American ... Selected to the All-Region team following his junior and senior seasons accumulating 20 touchdowns and nearly 1500 yards between those years ... Named All-State following his junior year ... Had 28 receptions for 661 yards and eight touchdowns in his senior year to average 23.6 yards per catch ... During his junior season, he had 43 receptions for 797 yards and 12 touchdowns ... One of the top games of his career came in a come-from-behind victory over Cane Bay when they were down 21-0 during the fourth quarter and his 99-yard touchdown grab helped push them to the win ... Austin Brown, 6'0-165, DB (McEachern High School, Powder Springs, GA)
Originally from Powder Springs, Georgia where he attended McEachern High School where he played under Head Coach Kareem Reid and position coaches Luis George and Chris Cody ... During his senior season, he helped lead McEachern to a region title at the 7A level where he finished with 45 tackles, nine tackles for loss, five pass breakups and five interceptions ... During his junior year, he had 36 tackles, nine tackles for loss, two pass breakups and saw time the team's punt returner while in his sophomore year he had two interceptions ... One of the top games of his career came during his senior year in a playoff game against Newton as he had a pair of interceptions, two tackles for loss and six total tackles ... Caden Clay, 6'2-200, QB, (Northside High School, Valley, AL)
Originally from Valley, Alabama and played at Northside High School under Head Coach Andrew Oropeza who also served as the team's QB coach ... During his time at Northside, he was a three-time All-Chattahoochee Valley and two-time All-State selection ... His junior and sophomore year he was First-Team All-Region, First-Team All-Chattahoochee Valley and Second-Team All-State and garnered a Second-Team All-Chattahoochee Valley nod his senior season ... Collected over 3500 yards and 35 touchdowns through the air to go with 1200 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground during his high school career ... Accounted for 24 touchdowns on the year during his sophomore year and 1700 total yards during that season and his junior one ... The top performance of his junior year came against Legrange where he tossed for 300 yards and accounted for four touchdowns ... His best performances during his sophomore year came in a big playoff victory over Tucker as he collected five total touchdowns with another great game against Sumter County where he had 250 passing yards and three passing touchdowns in the contest ... Hunter Green, 6'3-230, TE (West Forsyth High School, Cumming, GA)
From Cumming, Georgia where he played and graduated from West Forsyth High School under Head Coach Dave Svehla and position coach Jacob Cavender ... While serving as a captain and two-way player during his senior year, he hauled in 15 catches for 176 yards and two touchdowns on the offensive side while he also posted 63 tackles, 15 TFLs and four sacks on the defensive side of the ball ... During his junior season, he collected 19 receptions for 255 yards and three touchdowns ... Best career game came against Prince Avenue where he collected five catches for 75 yards and a touchdown ... For the past two seasons, he has lead his team in sacks earning All-Region honors in both of them with a nod to the First-Team following his senior year ... His senior season saw him collect 60 total tackles over 20 TFLs and five sacks while his junior season he had 67 tackles, 29 TFLs and 8.5 sacks ... Helped to lead New Hampstead to a home playoff victory ... Was a three-sport student-athlete as he was also a member of the basketball and baseball programs.

During his senior year, he had seven interceptions, 11 pass breakups and 31 tackles while during his junior year he had an interception, 25 tackles and 10 pass breakups ... His junior year he helped lead Coffee to a State Championship ... Was an All-Region selection at the conclusion of his senior season ... Chancy Jordan, 6'0-230, DL (Lincoln High School, Tallahassee, FL)
Originally from Tallahassee, Florida where he attended Lincoln High School playing under Head Coach Jimmy Tyson and position coach Omar Brown ... Between his past three seasons, he had compiled over 40 tackles for loss including back-to-back 10+ sack seasons to become one of the top prospects in the state of Florida on the defensive line ... The final two seasons he played at Lincoln HS saw him earn First-Team Big Bend Honors ... His senior year saw him post 30 total tackles to go with 14 TFLs, 11 sacks, two forced fumble, an interception and a touchdown while his junior year he had 40 total tackles, 13 TFLs, 16 sacks and a forced fumble ... His sophomore season, he was able to be a contributor to the lineup in a big way as he posted 23 total tackles to go with eight TFLs and five sacks ... One of the best games of his career came against Wildwood when he had a 100% block-win percentage and had 15 pancakes ... He was an All-State and All-Region selection following his junior and senior seasons while also earned a FACA All-Region honor following his final year ... He helped lead South Sumter to a regional championship during the fall of 2023 ... Parker was also a member of the weightlifting team taking FHSAA runner-up accolades during his junior year ... Braylon Phillips, 6'0-185, LB (Bainbridge High School, Bainbridge, GA)
Originally from Bainbridge, Georgia where he played at Bainbridge High School under Head Coach Jay Walls, Defensive Coordinator Joe Dollar and position coach Colt Gardner ... Over the past three seasons he collected over 200 total tackles and 40 TFLs ... His senior fall he posted 72 tackles including 17 TFLs and had just as impressive of a junior season with 75 tackles and 17 TFLs ... In his sophomore year he burst onto the scene in Georgia with 62 tackles and nine TFLs ... In his senior year he was a 4A All-State and First-Team All-Region honoree and served as a team captain as well as a Second-Team All-Region selection in his junior year ... He played as a two-way player during his senior season, he scored six offensive touchdowns while on the defensive side of the ball he had 23 tackles, four pass breakups, an interception and two tackles for loss ... In his junior year, he had 95 rushes for 733 yards and 14 total touchdowns while collecting a total of 1092 all-purpose yards ... In his sophomore year, he stayed just on defense and had 23 tackles to go with eight pass breakups and four interceptions ... Some of the top games of his career came against Gilmer when he was responsible for four touchdowns as well as one against Coahulla Creek when he ran for 189 yards and had two touchdowns ... He was named the Athlete of the Year following his junior year and was a First-Team All-Region defensive back in his sophomore campaign ... Led Adairsville to back-to-back region titles in his sophomore and junior seasons ... Was a three-sport athlete as he was also on the basketball and track & field teams ... While on the basketball team, he helped them to back-to-back region championships in his sophomore and junior seasons ... Between his final two seasons, he racked up nearly 50 knockdown blocks while not allowing a single sack ... His senior fall he had 33 knockdowns while in his junior year he posted a season-total of 16 ... He was named First-Team All-Region following his junior season ... He helped lead Lee County to a pair of region championships with them coming in 2021 and 2024 ... Was also a member of the track & field team at the school where he won the discus throw at the Westover Relays ... Mom, Candice Drake, was a cheerleader at Alabama A&M.
 
Devontae Roberts, 5'11-180, DB (Gadsden County High School, Crawfordville, FL)
Joins Charleston Southern from Crawfordville, Florida where he attended Gadsden County High School where he played under Head Coach Russell Ellington and position coach Travis Gordon ... During his senior year, he had a punt return, kick return and pick-six for touchdowns during the year ... In total on the year he had two interceptions, 46 tackles and 13 pass breakups ... For his junior year, he had three interceptions which included a pick-six to go with 72 tackles, a fumble recovery and seven pass breakups ... During his sophomore season, he had 20 tackles, 10 pass breakups, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, three blocked field goals and two blocked punts ... One of the top games of his career came against McCallie High School where he had eight tackles, four pass breakups and a pick-six ... Earned First-Team All Big-Bend following his junior year ... Also was a member of the track & field and basketball teams with him averaging 20 points a game and was the team MVP ... Harry Smalls, 5'8-192, RB (Savannah Christian, Savannah, GA)
Originally from Savannah, Georgia played at Savannah Christian under Head Coach and position coach Baker Woodward ... Earned All-Region Offensive Player of the Year following his senior season taking All-Region awards each of his final three seasons including an All-State Honorable Mention selection following his junior year ... Over the final three seasons for him at Savannah Christian, he compiled over 4600 rushing yards eclipsing 1300 on the ground and 20 touchdowns during each of them ... His senior season saw him go for 1358 yards and 21 touchdowns on 199 carries ... Smalls' junior year included 265 carries for 1903 yards and 33 touchdowns, each marking career-highs ... His sophomore year he went for 1408 yards and 22 touchdowns on 200 carries ... Has helped to lead Savannah Christian to great postseason runs including a state runner-up finish during his junior year to go with a pair of state quarterfinal appearances in his sophomore and senior years ... Accumulated nearly 3000 receiving yards and over 30 touchdowns over his final three seasons earning back-to-back FACA District 6 First-Team honors ... Hauled in 60 receptions for 976 yards and 12 touchdowns in his senior year to led them to an undefeated regular season ... Had 68 catches for 1348 yards and 16 touchdowns during his junior year while he hauled in 45 receptions and 733 yards and six touchdowns ... During his sophomore year he had 45 catches for 733 yards and six touchdowns ... One of the top games of his career came against Creekside HS in his junior year as he posted 302 yards for three touchdowns ...Following his junior year, he was named FACA District 6 First-Team, District Player of the Year, All-State First Coast High School First-Team Offense and to the Jacksonville Jaguars All-Prep Top 25 Team ... Hakeem Watters, 5'7-168, RB (Hartsville High School, Hartsville, SC)
Originally from Hartsville, South Carolina where he attended Hartsville High School and played under Head Coach Jeff Calabrese ... Took on the role of the lead back at his high school entering his junior season where he went on to rush for over 3000 career yards and 40 career touchdowns ... His senior season saw him earn Co-Region Player of the Year as he had 173 carries go for 1300 yards for 7.5 yards per carry to go with 145 receiving yards and 22 total touchdowns ... In his junior year, he had 1501 yards on the ground off 158 carries for a 9.5 yards per carry average to go with 204 receiving yards and a total of 20 touchdowns ... His sophomore year, he worked into the rotation and collected 58 rushes for 300 yards and three touchdowns ... He was named All-State following his junior year and has been an All-Region honoree for each of his final two seasons ... Was also a member of the track & field program where he ran a leg on the 4x100m relay squad that won a state championship during his freshman year ... Named Most Athletic Senior at Hartsville High School during his senior year.
