Bucs Have Singles and Doubles Entrees Eliminated in Round of 16 at ITA Conference Masters Championships

ROME, GA. – Charleston Southern Women's Tennis completed their time at the ITA Conference Masters Tournament this past weekend with their singles and doubles entrees each going to the round of 16.

The Buccaneers' doubles pairing of Noa Boyd and Amila Jusufbegovic picked up an opening day victory over Cornell's Hoi Ki Jenny Wong and Emma Baker late into the evening hours to stay alive in the draw and move onto the second day of the event. After dropping the first set at 6-4, they rallied to take the next two to get the victory. They won the second by a 7-6 (3) scoreline needing a tiebreaker and got the third in the ten-point tiebreaker at 10-6.

In the second match of the tournament in the round of 16, they lost 6-4, 7-6 (4) to the eventual champions of the draw Savannah Dada-Mascoll and Isabella Romanichen of Appalachian State.

Marina Skegro competed in the singles bracket and claimed a victory in her opening match on the day. She needed a third set as she dropped the first but came back to eliminate Lou Baudouin of Sacramento State with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 final. She competed in the round of 16 during the afternoon following her win in the morning but fell to #5-8 Divna Ratkovic of Rice 6-3, 6-1 to end her time at the event.

The ITA Conference Masters Championships will have a draw size of 32 for both singles and doubles. From this, four players will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship (semifinalists). Meanwhile, three doubles teams (3) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship through the Conference Masters Championships (champion, finalist, third place).

Players and teams were selected to compete in the ITA Conference Masters Championships through various qualifying routes. With representation from across the Division I landscape, conferences could determine how they wanted to select their representatives for the tournament with some holding conference tournaments and others using various qualifying factors to select players.

The Big South Conference held a tournament to determine their selections for their bids. Marina Skegro won the singles bracket and Noa Boyd and Amila Jusufbegovic won the doubles bracket.

The full spring schedule will be released later in the week with the Bucs looking to end the season with taking their fourth Big South Championship in a five-year span.
