Charleston, S.C. – The Buccaneers men's and women's cross-country teams will compete at the ECU Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C., on Friday, Oct.4. The women's 8k is set for 9 a.m. while the women's 6k is set for 9:45 a.m.
The Charleston Southern Men and Women will look to impact the race from the start. Last time the Bucs ran, graduate student Sarah McCartney was the first to cross the line with a time of 21:09.2, claiming 7th overall. She would later be rewarded Big South Runner of the Week for the second time this season due to her efforts. Senior Keerstin Augustin would be the second Buccaneer to cross the finish line with an overall finish of 10th with a time of 21:16.2. Elizabeth Shaylor and Katrina Husby each recorded times in the 22s as they were in 25th and 30th in the field. Shaylor had a time of 22:36.9 while Husby had a time of 22:49.1. Taylar White was the fifth finisher for the Bucs in the race with her time of 23:04.1. The Buccaneers would finish third at the Furman Invitational with a score of 78.
The men were led by transfer Matt Bauer who finished with a time of 18:11.5 for a top ten finish as he took ninth overall. Caleb Kenyon and Sam Waldin were the next two across the line as they were in 13th and 14th as they had times of 18:24.5 and 18:25.5. Zach Mickler and Jeff Wedding rounded out the scoring five for Charleston Southern being right behind Kenyon and Waldin taking 15th and 16th overall. Mickler had a time of 18:29.1 while 18:29.2. Martin Iriondo and Zack Wedding were the final pair to score for the Buccaneers with their times of 18:40.9 and 18:48.7. The Bucs would finish up as runner-up in the Furman Invitational with a score of 57.
Charleston Southern will have one more regular season meet left this year before they host the 2024 Big South Cross Country Championships on Friday, November 1.
