Bucs Claim Each of Big South's Automatic Bids to ITA Conference Masters Tournament

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Charleston Southern Women's Tennis claimed both the singles and doubles titles at the inaugural Big South Fall Tennis Individual Championships on Sunday at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C. The top-ranked doubles pair in the draw of Noa Boyd and Amila Jusufbegovic won the doubles bracket while the third-seeded Marina Skegro claimed the singles crown. With the victories, they receive automatic entry into the ITA Conference Masters Championship which will be held from Thursday, November 7 through Sunday, November 10 in Rome, Georgia with a chance to advance to the NCAA Individual Championships.

Boyd and Jusufbegovic claimed the title on Sunday over teammates #3 Kassandra Di Staulo and Skegro by a score of 8-5. Charleston Southern placed a pair of teams in the draw and they combined to go 4-0 against the other competition in the field. They all breezed through the field winning all the matches by 8-1 or 8-2 scorelines to face each other in the finals.

For singles, Charleston Southern also dominated the field, with the three entrees from the Bucs having their only losses come against each other as well. In total, the group of #2 Boyd, #3 Skegro and #10 Jusufbegovic compiled a record of 5-0 against opposition from other schools in the league with only two of these requiring a third set.

All three advanced through the first round to set up for the first CSU v CSU matchup of the weekend as Boyd defeated Jusufbegovic while Skegro defeated Michaela Stephens of Radford 6-3, 1-6, 6-1. In the semifinals, Skegro eliminated Boyd 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 for her spot in Sunday's championship match. In the finals, Skegro took the first set by a score of 7-6 (4) and won the second set 6-3 to clinch the victory over UNC Asheville's Alexis Nyborg.

Charleston Southern has one more fall tournament remaining for the season as they will be taking part in the College of Charleston Invitational from November 1-3. Following this, they will be heading to the ITA Masters Tournament with these players who clinched their automatic bids to the event with their victories this weekend. At that event, the top four singles players and top three doubles players will advance from their draws of 32 entrees.
