CLEMSON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern Women's 4x400 relay time was broken on Saturday with the squad of
Amaya Johnson,
Jewel Ash,
Grenisha Thomas and
Dylann Core finishing in a time of 3:42.38 to take 4
th overall. The time is over four seconds faster than the previous record, ranks as the third fastest in conference history and served as the highlight for the Bucs past two days at the Bob Pollock Invitational.
Some of the top performances of the meet came in the 400m with Ash and Johnson each recording top 15 finishes. Ash finished with a 55.32 and Johnson was at 55.73, with Ash's being fractions of a second off her personal best. Johnson's time is now tied for the third fastest in school history.
Anne Akagi ran a season best in the mile with a time of 5:01.22 to finish in 13
th overall in the field of nearly 40.
Emma James also competed in the event, improving on her personal best time set just two weeks for a time of 5:11.68.
Also in the women's distance events,
Sarah McCartney notched a 6
th-place finish crossing the line at 9:55.24 finishing ahead of almost 20 Power 5 runners in it.
Chloe Mae Wilks had a time of 8.86 in the 60m hurdle. Wilks now sits in a tie with
Chloe Greene for 10
th fastest in school history in the event.
Zemaya Carson finished in the top ten for the shot put with a heave of 14.04m (46' ¼ ") to take ninth overall in the field.
Greene competed in the heptathlon on Day One of the meet recording a top five finish in it and being just off her personal best total score, finishing with 3449 this weekend.
The Buccaneers will be back in action just one week from today as the Bucs will be competing at the USC Invitational on Saturday, February 3.
