Bucs Clinch Radford Series with Twinbill Sweep

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern baseball added another Big South series win to its resume as it took both installments of a twinbill on the road at Radford Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1 | CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 7, RADFORD 3
Charleston Southern (16-18, 8-6 Big South) opened the scoring summary in the opening contest as Ashton Wilson came around to score on a wild pitch in the second frame. The Buccaneer advantage would then be double in the next at-bat as Kieran Davis left the yard to right center to make it a 2-0 ball game.

The fourth inning would see a big swing from another Buccaneer as Wilson doubled the CSU advantage with a two-run blast over the left field wall, scoring Casey Asman as well, and the Bucs were cruising early.

Radford (7-29, 0-11 Big South) would wait until the fifth inning to make any noise as a Cameron Pittman ground ball on the infield was enough to push Avery Spencer across to score. The sixth frame saw another Highlander run come across, this time via a double from the bat of Ryan Gilmore.

Charleston Southern would answer right back with some insurance as Jaylin Rae left his mark on the eighth and ninth frames. He would come around to score on a wild pitch in the eighth before his single up the middle in the ninth would push things out of reach as Nico Regino and Jared Payne would both come across to score.

The Highlanders added a solo shot in the home-half pf the ninth, but Evan Truitt was able to see the rest of the contest out for the game one victory.

Truitt (W, 2-5) takes the win for Charleston Southern after coming on in to get the final out of the fifth and finishing the contest. His line finished as two earned across six hits and a strikeout. Kaleb Hill got the start and left with a no decision after recording 14 outs after his book was shut after just one earned on five hits and three punchies.

Dylan Howard (L, 1-6) was charged with the loss after giving up four earned across seven hits and four strikeouts in seven complete innings of work. Ben Keffe was called on to record the final six outs, as he was tagged with three earned on four hits in his body of work.

GAME TWO | CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 11, RADFORD 8 (F/10)
Charleston Southern would again be the first to score in the final installment of the day, not wasting any time doing so. Davis' ball on the infield in the first frame would be enough to score Wilson and the Bucs would lead 1-0 early.

Radford would find an earlier answer than the previous contest as the Highlanders struck for two in the first and another in the second to take their first lead of the evening. The first saw a sacrifice fly from Julian Rojas and a run come across as Austin Stalker was picked off at first before a Ryan Gilmore double scored Sully Tibbs in the second.

Connor Aldrich brought the Bucs to within a run in the third with a single to left to score Tyrell Brewer, bur the Highlanders had another answer. Rojas pushed the advantage to three with a two-run shot to right in the same frame as Radford would have its biggest lead of the game.

The middle innings belonged to Charleston Southern as Asman hit a two-run shot in the fifth to score Brewer and make it a one-run contest before the sixth saw Davis collect a sacrifice fly to score Nicholas Fazzari and Asman follow it up with a two-run single to right to score Regino and Rae.

The seventh frame was headlined by both sides as Regino started it with a sacrifice fly to score Fazzari and put Charleston Southern up 8-5. Radford had an answer with two runs to make it a one-run affair once again, leading to a ninth-inning triple with two outs from Spencer to tie the game up and force free baseball.

The extra frame was kind to the Bucs, as Bryce Brock entered in the tenth as a pinch hitter and again made the most of it. As a recurring theme all year for Brock, he came up big off the bench with a triple down the line in right, scoring Ray and Wilson to make it a 10-8 contest. Asman was not done either, as he capped the frame off with a double to right to return the favor to Brock.

Daniel Padysak (W, 2-0) takes the win for Charleston Southern after getting the final eight outs of the contest, giving up one earned on two hits and striking out six. Sam Massey got the start for the Bucs going 1.2 innings, giving up three earned on two hits and three walks. Zac Robinson ate up the other 14 puts in the middle, giving up four earned on four hits and six punchies.

Landon Higgerson (L, 1-3) takes the loss after giving up the three runs in the extra frame for the Highlanders. Radford used five different arms to navigate through the contest, as Gannon Kadlecik, who only recorded one out, was the only one to not give up a run.
