ATLANTA – Day one of the Charleston Southern outdoor men's track and field competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday featured two running events loaded up with Buccaneers, as eight Bucs clocked times in the 1500 meters and another four crossed the finish line in the 5000 meters.

MID-DISTANCE CONTINUING TO BE A STRENGTH
In an event with 101 total athletes, CSU had its top-three finishers place second, third and fifth. Micah Gilpatric led the trio with his runner-up time of 3:44.84, setting a new personal record, registering the third-fastest time in school history and entering the Big South's all-time Top 10.

He held off a battle with teammate Fearghal Curtin, who was third with the fifth-fastest time in program history at 3:45.23, establishing another personal record. Rob Howorth was just .07 seconds behind but two spots back at the photo finish, earning fifth place with a time of 3:45.30, only .30 seconds shy of his personal-best time.

Of the remaining five runners, Gavin Kuhlenbeck (3:54.92) and Timothy Depue (4:02.96) each set personal records for the event.

ANOTHER SOLID GROUP IN THE LONGER RACE
Four student-athletes wearing the blue and gold represented Charleston Southern in the 5000 meters in another showcase event. Jaden Kingsley topped the quartet with a personal-best time of 14:36.36, the ninth-fastest time in CSU history. Evan Crawford beat his previous personal record by less than .50 seconds as he crossed the finish line in 15:34.18.

THROWERS ARE SAME DUO
Two members of the roster participated in the field events, Michael Calhoun and Nathan Myers. Calhoun got the better of his teammate in both the hammer throw and shot put, although Myers' heave of 14.68m (48'2") in the shot put set a personal-record distance.

SATURDAY'S FULL SCHEDULE
The Buccaneers will conclude competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational Saturday, while another set of athletes will be closer to home in Columbia at the UofSC Open.
