CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern women's tennis earned its eighth home victory of the season, topping Rhode Island, 7-0, in non-conference play. The win keeps the home record spotless for Charleston Southern, taking all eight matches at the Gary Clark Banks Sr. Tennis Center.
The match started with Charleston Southern (10-3) clinching the doubles point after wins at flights two and three.
Luiza Fullana and
Laura Marti took a 6-3 decision and
Noa Boyd and
Amila Jusufbegovic clinched the opening tally with a 6-3 win.
Singles went the way of the Bucs as well, as Rhode Island (6-7) was unable to find a point in the singles competition. All six results came in straight sets for Charleston Southern.
Madalina Man and Boyd stood tall at singles one and two,
Khyanna Singh and
Amila Jusufbegovic handled flights and three and four and
Tiffany Pyritz and
Zoe Cauthen cruised at five and six.
Charleston Southern's win Friday afternoon makes it six matches in a row, including eight of its last nine for the reigning Big South Champions. In that stretch, CSU has dropped points in just one of the last six tilts, five of the six coming as sweeps.
The Bucs return to action Wednesday, March 23, as they head to Clinton to take on Presbyterian in Big South play. Charleston Southern has ran off 13 Big South matches in a row, dating back to the 2020 campaign. The 2022 slate has the Bucs sitting at 4-0 in conference play thus far at the halfway point.
