SEC OPENING
Charleston Southern opened the 2022 season against a Power 5 opponent for the third year in a row and the fourth since 2016 as the Buccaneers traveled to Oxford, Mississippi. It was also the first time CSU has opened the season against a top-5 ranked opponent in program history.
CSU was unable to take a game in the series, falling 9-3 in the opener before losing 11-1 in seven innings on Saturday and 12-2 in eight innings on Sunday.
Connor Carter and
Ryan Waldschmidt each left the yard for the Bucs in the series, while relievers
Krishna Raj and
Connor Yoder stood out as part of a strong showing of the Buccaneer bullpen in relief over the weekend.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Delaware State has yet to open its season, as Charleston Southern stands as the first opponent for the Hornets in the 2022 campaign.
BUCS SUCCESS
The two sides have clashed a total of 10 times since the first installment in 2007, with Charleston Southern holding a 9-1 lead in the series. The only win from Delaware State in the series came back in 2017. Each of the previous 10 meetings have all come at Nielsen Field.

Charleston Southern will head to The Citadel Tuesday, March 1 for the second installment of four mid-week meetings between the Lowcountry rivals. The Citadel took the first clash Tuesday, winning 16-3 after four long balls. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
