Western Carolina Comes to Buc Dome for Mid-Week Morning Contest

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's basketball team is back at the Buc Dome on Wednesday for a morning matchup with the Western Carolina Catamounts. The Buccaneers (1-4), led by Clarisse Garcia, are looking to snap a four-game losing streak after dropping both games on the road last week to George Mason and East Carolina.

This will be the 12th overall meeting between these two teams, with the last meeting coming in the 2014-15 season. The Catamounts currently have a seven-game winning streak against the Bucs.

Western Carolina
  • Western Carolina is a member of the SOCON Conference, and were picked to finish eighth out of ten teams coming into this season. 
  • The Catamounts come into this game with a 3-2 record. They have two wins already this season against Big South foes, defeating both Winthrop and USC Upstate and losing to Presbyterian. 
  • Led by Head Coach Kiley Hill, the team finished with a 7-23 record. It was the most wins for the Catamounts in a season since the 2016-17 season. 
  • Defense has been the strength for the Catamounts. They force 19.6 turnovers per game and 63.2 points per game. 
  • Meanwhile, they have struggled on the offensive end, averaging 54.0 points per game. They are shooting just 28.6% from the three-point line, 60.4% from the free throw line and 32.6% overall
Charleston Southern
  • The Buccaneers have turned the ball over an average of 25.6 times per game through their first five games. That is the seventh highest rate in the nation. 
  • In the past two games, the Bucs have shot a combined 23.3% from the field, but overall this season, they are shooting 34.2% and 28.4% from beyond the arc. 
  • Catherine Alben has started her freshman season out strong for CSU. She is leading the team in points per game (10) and rebounds per game (six).
  • Carleigh Andrews made her collegiate debut last Wednesday against George Mason and made two threes. She played a season-high 27 minutes and scored seven points in Sunday's game against East Carolina. The freshman from Auburn, Ala. is 4/11 from behind the three-point line this season.
  • Sha'Mya Leigh has been the overall leader on the court for Charleston Southern. She is averaging a team-high 33.4 minutes per game and is shooting 47.1% from the field.
