Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – Charleston Southern fell in its season finale on the road Saturday afternoon as North Carolina A&T used a strong second half effort to top the Buccaneers, 20-10.
ON THE BOARD FIRST
Charleston Southern was the side who broke the scoreless tie in the second stanza as
Nivon Holland ran a crosser across the middle and signal-caller Tony Bartolo hit him for the score from 34 yards out to put the Buccaneers up 7-0. Holland's reception was the only one for him on the day as he got outside and took it 27 yards to the house.
LOW SCORING AFFAIR
The Buccaneers got strong play from their defensive unit in the first half as North Carolina A&T was held without an offensive score in the entire first half. The lone Aggies score came on the kickoff that followed the Holland touchdown when NC A&T took it 97 yards to the house to tie things up at seven apiece.Â
FLIPPIN' FIELDS
David Gelb continues to answer the call for Head Coach Autry Denson and his bunch, as the transfer punter was called on eight times in the contest. Gelb had a long of 68 yards in the third quarter, a kick that he took from eight yards deep in his own endzone and was able to flip the field. His eight kicks traveled a total of 395 yards for an average right under 50 yards per kick.
NUMBERS, NUMBERS AND MORE NUMBER
TJ Ruff made up CSU backfield yet again today, finishing the day with 71 yards on 26 totes. Bartalo went 14-31 through the air for a score and an interception while amassing 162 yards with a long of 40 yards. Bartolo featured his tight ends down the stretch as
Landon Sauers caught two passes for 56 yards up the middle.
On the defensive side of the ball, Charleston Southern was led by
Garrett Sayegh, as the linebacker led the way with nine solo tackles and four assisted stops to finish with 13 to go along with two TFLs.
Jerome Rice III had a strong showing as well, collecting six total stops.
Jamel Johnson had two defensive takeaways for the CSU secondary, both coming in the closing stanza.Â
