CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern women's tennis opened its spring season with a statement 6-1 win over visiting Wofford at Thursday afternoon at the Gary Clark Banks Sr. Tennis Center. The Bucs took the doubles point after winning all three decisions before falling just one singles match short of the clean sweep.
 
The match started with Charleston Southern (1-0) making quick work of the doubles segment. Luiza Fullana and Laura Marti picked up right where they left off, cruising to the 6-1 decision. Zoe Cauthen and Tiffany Pyritz had the tightest match with a 6-4 decision while Madalina Man and Khyanna Singh cruised to a 6-2 victory at #3 doubles.
 
In singles play, Wofford (0-2) picked up its lone point at #1 singles as Lily Woods battled Fullana to a straight-set victory. Charleston Southern answered the call down the stretch, as Marti fought from behind to earn a point at #2 singles in a three-set decision while Man, Boyd, Singh and Amila Jusufbegovic cleaned up in straight-sets to round out the evening.
 
The win comes after the two teams clashed in Spartanburg just a season ago. The Terriers came away with the 4-3 victory, marking the first time since 2003 that Charleston Southern fell to the Southern Conference member. This afternoon's match brings the overall series record to 11-6 in favor of CSU since the first time the two sides met in 1990.
 
The Bucs welcome South Carolina State to the Gary Clark Banks Sr. Tennis Center in their second non-conference match of the spring campaign Saturday, February 5 in a noon start.
