Bucs dominate Blue Hose, clinch share of Big South title

CHARLESTON, S.C. – In a match of two unbeatens only one would walk away unblemished. Charleston Southern made quick work in the heavyweight fight Tuesday.

Charleston Southern (7-7, 5-0 Big South) tennis took the doubles point with ease Tuesday and never looked back taking a dominant 6-1 win over Presbyterian to clinch at least a share of the Big South regular season title.

Zoe Cauthen took a 6-0, 6-4 decision on the fourth flight making it a 4-1 Charleston Southern lead effectively clinching a share of the program's fifth regular season title and first since the 2017 season.

Presbyterian (5-11, 4-1 Big South) took their lone point on court five with a straight-set win, but it was all Charleston Southern all afternoon.

Luiza Fullana and Michelle Schmitz got the Senior Day festivities off to a quick start taking doubles court three by a 6-2 margin before Zoe Cauthen and Tiffany Pyritz did what they have all season clinching in dominant 6-1 fashion on the second court.

Freshman phenom Khyanna Singh made quick work at court three – like most Bucs did Tuesday – taking a 6-3, 6-1 score, Pyritz took her match on the final court 6-4, 6-0 then Cauthen clinched and Fullana (Court Two 6-4, 6-1) and Madalina Man (Court One 6-4, 0-6, 1-0) put the final stamp on the win.

Tuesday's win effectively clinches the No. 1 seed in the Hercules Tires Big South Women's Tennis Championships next weekend in Charlotte and win Saturday over UNC Asheville gives the Bucs an outright title.
