CHARLESTON, S.C. – Two fourth-quarter touchdowns pulled Charleston Southern to within one score but the Buccaneers were unable to fully overcome the deficit in dropping a 21-18 decision to North Carolina A&T Saturday afternoon in Big South action.
COOK GOES OUT IN STYLE
Lawson Cook used the first start of his career in his final home game to his advantage against the Aggies, leading the defensive corps with 10 tackles, including six solo, with 1.5 for a loss. Playing with a cast on one hand did not deter the Dacula, Georgia, product from spying on North Carolina A&T offensive players the whole game.
WILLIAMS BUILDS FOURTH-PLACE CUSHION
Anton Williams remained in fourth place on the school's all-time sacks list but he created some separation between him and Adrell Walker (1999-2001), a difference of just 0.5 entering Saturday's contest. Williams picked up 2.0 sacks Saturday to up his career number to 15.5 and moving him to within 1.5 of Solomon Brown (2014-18) for third in program history.
MIMS JOINS ELLIS WITH 20+
Second place on the career sacks chart is
Shaundre Mims (2017-present), and with one against North Carolina A&T, he joined Anthony Ellis (2014-17) as the only players in Bucs history with at least 20. Ellis owns the all-time mark at 25 but Mims enters the twilight of his career now with 20.5.
SMITH; MIMS GRAB FIRST CAREER PICKS
Freshman
Kamron Smith joined Mims as Charleston Southern defensive players with interceptions, each picking off passes for the first time in their respective careers. Smith stepped in front of a Jalen Fowler pass late in the first period for a return of 14 yards, while Mims got his in the third quarter, again off Fowler's hand.
SENIORS HONORED
At the conclusion of the game, the Buccaneers honored the careers of this year's senior class of 21 players. Two videos were played and each player, with family and friends standing with them on the field, were recognized with a list of accomplishments and a game ball detailing the highlights of their careers with the program.
