CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern baseball will host Richmond this week for a two-game series. Game one is set for Tuesday night at 6:00pm from Nielsen Field at CSU Ballpark followed by game two on Wednesday at 2:00pm. Game one will be streamed on ESPN+
Turning Two
The CSU fielders have done a great job at helping out the pitching staff through the first few weeks of the 2020 season. The Bucs have turned 15 double plays so far, the most in the Big South conference and ranks 14th nationally.
Patient at the Plate
Charleston Southern batters have had good plate discipline so far this season. They've drawn 76 walks so far this year, the highest total for any Big South team. Leading the team in this effort has been
Ryan Stoudemire, who leads the conference with 14 walks.
Need for Speed
The Bucs currently rank sixth nationally and lead the Big South conference in stolen bases. CSU has stolen 37 bases this year so far, including nine from
Kyle Sandstrom who ranks first in the conference.
Series History
CSU has hosted the Spiders for two, three-game series in Charleston. The Bucs took one game in the 1996 series, and another in the 2008 series, giving Richmond a 4-2 advantage in the overall series. The 2008 Bucs featured current CSU assistant coach
Nick Chinners in the lineup in all three games.
About the Spiders
Richmond closes out their trip to the Lowcountry with two games at CSU following a weekend at the Swig and Swine Classic at The Shipyard in Mt. Pleasant. THe Spiders went 1-2 on the weekend with a win over Purdue-Fort Wayne and losses to Ball State and Yale. Overall, Richmond is 3-12 on the year and 0-4 on the road.
