CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern baseball will host Appalachian State this weekend for a three-game series. Game one is set for Friday night at 6:00pm from Nielsen Field at CSU Ballpark.
High Five
Charleston Southern won their fifth game in a row on Tuesday night with a 3-1 victory over Davidson. The Bucs are currently riding their longest winning streak since 2017. CSU's pitching has been the hallmark of the win streak, with
Holden Tucker and
Trent Seibert being the latest examples.
Holden Tucker started the game off strong with five scoreless innings, during which he struck out eight and only walked one. The freshman only allowed three hits in his first start to pick up his first collegiate win.
Trent Seibert came on after Tucker to pick up his second save of the season. He only allowed one run in his outing and struck out six as he closed out the game with four innings on the mound.
Patient at the Plate
Charleston Southern batters have had good plate discipline so far this season. They've drawn 67 walks so far this year, the highest total for any Big South team. Leading the team in this effort has been
Ryan Stoudemire, who leads the conference and is seventh nationally with 14 walks.
Need for Speed
The Bucs currently lead the Big South conference in stolen bases. CSU has stolen 30 bases this year so far, including nine from
Kyle Sandstrom who ranks fourth in the nation and leads the conference.
Series History
The Bucs have faced Appalachian State three times in the history of the two programs, with CSU leading the series 2-1. The two sides split a home-and-home in 2003, with the Mountaineers winning 13-17 in Charleston before CSU won 5-3 later that year in Boone. CSU took the series lead in 2005 with an 11-6 home win.
About the MountaineersÂ
Unlike CSU, App State has yet to play a game at home this season. They've seen some success on the road, entering the weekend with a 5-6 record, but they boast wins over #24 Wake Forest and Wednesday's midweek game against Western Carolina.
