CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern baseball will host Davidson this week for a two-game series. Game one is set for Tuesday night at 6:00pm from Nielsen Field at CSU Ballpark.
Get the Brooms Out
Charleston Southern enters the new week coming off a four-game weekend sweep of Delaware State. The Bucs outscored the Hornets 37-11 over the weekend with several outstanding individual performances.
Alex Andronica went 5-for-5 to finish a triple shy of the cycle on Friday. On Saturday, he collected his second triple of the week, going 1-for-2 driving in two runs. He wrapped up the weekend with a two-RBI single in Sunday's finale.
Daniel Padysak continued his hot streak on the mound, throwing six of seven innings in Game 1 of the doubleheader on Saturday. The freshman struck out 10 of the 25 batters he faced and allowed just one run on six hits, without allowing a walk.
Need for Speed
The Bucs are tied for the national lead in stolen bases. CSU has stolen 30 bases this year so far, including nine from
Kyle Sandstrom who ranks third in the nation. The senior stole four bases on Sunday against Delaware State, which ties him for the school record for single game stolen bases.
Patient at the Plate
Charleston Southern batters have had good plate discipline so far this season. They've drawn 66 walks so far this year, the highest total for any Big South team and the 18th most in the country.
Series History
The Bucs and Wildcats have squared off 12 times, with Davidson holding an 8-4 advantage. The first matchup came in 1971, the fifth season of the CSU program. Davidson has won two of the last three matchups, including the most recent one in 2018.
About the Wildcats
Davidson started out the 2020 season as hot as anyone, winning their first seven games in a row. They've since cooled off, dropping two of their last four, but they'll certainly look to get back to their winning ways in Charleston.Â
