CHARLESTON, S.C. - Due to the impact of COVID-19, the cheerleading pre-tryout clinic on April 4 has been canceled. Head Coach Cady Everett also announced the cancellation of the cheer tryouts on April 25th.

The cheerleading squad will still be holding their tryouts on June 13 and will also be accepting Video tryouts submitted through June 13.

To be eligible to try out, you must have a letter of acceptance from Charleston Southern University Admissions office or currently be enrolled as a full time student at the University. Please see the link to the forms that are needed on the day of tryouts. You will need to bring this form with you on the day of tryouts along with a $25 registration fee.

Thank you for your interest in the CSU Cheerleading Program. As a division 1 program, cheering at CSU is a major commitment of your non-academic time and takes priority over all other activities. 

The CSU cheerleaders are a vital part of the athletic culture at Charleston Southern University. The cheerleaders attend all home football and basketball games, as well as attend key away games during the 2020 football season and both men's and women's Big South Basketball Tournaments in March 2021. Members are chosen based on appearance, personality, communication skills, crowd appeal, motion placement and timing, tumbling skills, and stunting abilities.

Important Tryout Information:

June 13th, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. - Brewer Center
Video tryouts submitted on June 13th

For individuals out of state or those who cannot make in person tryouts, Video Tryouts are available. The individual should demonstrate on video a cheer, jumps (toe touch, right and left hurdler, and pike), both standing and running tumbling, and stunting. At the beginning of the video please state your name and location along with a short introduction. Cheerleaders should be dressed as if they were attending an in-person tryout. All paperwork needs to be filled out, signed and turned in before any video will be reviewed.

Requirements are as follows:
Tumbling

• Ladies: standing back handspring, optional tumbling pass with a minimum of a back handspring.

Stunts

• You will be evaluated throughout the tryout to assess your stunting skills and potential.
• We are looking for a load in stretch full down into a cradle.

Cheer

• Everyone will perform the cheer with a stunt. This is the time to show your overall cheerleading skills.

Fight Song

• Ladies only.

Interview

• Everyone trying out will participate in an interview.

 Appearance:

• Wear navy, gold and/or white athletic apparel.
• Bow (for girls).
• Cheerleading shoes

 *Tryouts will be closed to the public

• Copy of most recent physical (within the last 12 months)
• Proof of insurance
• $25 registration (bring check or cash on the day of tryouts)

 *Incoming or transfer students will have to bring proof of acceptance to CSU.
