CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern continued its winning ways on Saturday afternoon as the Buccaneers opened Big South play with a 6-1 win over USC Upstate at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex.

The Bucs (5-4, 1-0 Big South) took the doubles point and added singles wins on courts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 on their way to topping the Spartans in the conference opener for both teams.

CSU wasted little time taking the first doubles win on Saturday afternoon as Tiffany Pyritz and Zoe Cauthen picked up the early 6-1 victory over the Spartans' Elin Hellberg and Maria Jardim on court no. 1. Upstate evened the doubles count at 1-1 as Roberta Armani and Laua Illanes topped CSU's Hilda Lundstedt and Liz Williams on court no. 3, 6-4.

The Bucs pulled through to go ahead 1-0 in the match as Michelle Schmitz and Luisa Fullana topped the Spartans' Gabriela Cevallos and Morgan Valentine, 6-4.

CSU made quick work in singles play with four of the Bucs' five wins coming courtesy of straight sets.

Pyrtiz topped Hellberg on the top singles court with a 6-1, 6-1, while Schmitz added a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Cevallos on court no. 2. Williams bounced back from her doubles loss with a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Valentine on court no. 4, while Fullana battled Illanes to a 6-1, 6-0 win on court no. 5.

The lone match to go three sets went in the Bucs' favor as Cauthen topped Jardim on court no. 3, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6.

Armani recorded the Spartans' lone point of the day with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Lundstedt on court no. 6.
