CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern went on a crucial 11-2 run over an five-minute span in the second half as the Buccaneers completed the season sweep over UNC Asheville on Tuesday night inside the Buccaneer Field House, 56-54.

Tyra Wright started the Bucs (4-21, 2-14 Big South) with a three-pointer from the top of the key with 8:16 remaining in the game to cut the UNC Asheville lead down to 47-41.
Ahlea Myers and
Carmella Walker combined to hit three of four from the free throw line over the next two minutes to narrow the gap down to 47-44 with 6:13 to play.

Sonora Dengokl ended the six-point CSU swing as the Asheville (14-11, 8-8 Big South) senior hit nothing but net on a mid-range jumper at the 5:49 mark to put the Bulldogs back up five. CSU took control over the next two possessions with Myers and Wright both converting inside the paint to make it a one-point game with 4:50 to play.

Walker and Myers once again connected from the free throw line to put CSU back in the lead with 2:30 remaining as the Bucs hit three-of-four to go up 53:49. The Bucs' lead hit five points on Walker's free throw at the 53 second mark as the Bucs went up 56-51 with under a minute to play.

Zip Scott connected on a late three-pointer for the Bulldogs and UNC Asheville had a chance to tie the game up late, but Brooke Jordan-Brown's jumper at the buzzer fell off the rim as the Bucs secured the conference win.

Myers paced the Bucs with a team-high 12 points as the sophomore guard went 5-of-8 from the free throw line, while adding a key three-pointer in the contest.
Tyra Wright and
Tierra Steede both added 11 points each, while
Carmella Walker chipped in nine points, eight rebounds, and five steals in the win.

Asheville's Nadiria Evans led all scorers with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Dengokl added 12 points in the loss. Brooke Jordan-Brown chipped in eight points and 11 rebounds, while Zip Scott pulled down 10 rebounds to add to the Bulldogs' totals.

The teams battled through a mostly defensive first quarter before CSU utilized a 13-5 run to take control in the first quarter. CSU and Asheville combined to hit one shot, a Nadiria Evans jumper, over the first 5:39 of the game before

Tierra Steede scored a team-high five points in the first quarter for the Bucs to highlight the team's scoring effort over the first 10 minutes.

Second Quarter – UNC Asheville 28, Charleston Southern 25
The second quarter belonged to the Bulldogs as UNC Asheville utilized a seven-point run on their way to going up 22-20 following a Faith Adams three-pointer.
Cailah Hicklin tied the game up at the 3:38 mark with a spinning layup to even the score at 22-22. Evans, Jordan-Brown, and Dengokl all connected on mid-range jumpers late in the quarter to give the Bulldogs the three-point lead at the half.

Third Quarter – UNC Asheville 47, Charleston Southern 38
The Bulldogs hit 7-of-11 shots from the field in the third quarter on their way to building a near double-digit lead heading into the final 10 minutes of the contest. Asheville's lead hit seven points following a pair of Jordan-Brown free throws at the 3:25 mark gave the Bulldogs a 41-34 advantage.
Tierra Steede scored the Bucs' final six points of the quarter on her way to propelling the Bucs to the fourth-quarter comeback.

Fourth Quarter – Charleston Southern 56, UNC Asheville 54
Ahlea Myers (7),
Carmella Walker (6), and
Tyra Wright (5) scored all 18 of CSU's points over the final 10 minutes of the ball game as the Bucs' trio outscored the Bulldogs 18-7 in securing the conference win. The Bucs went 9-of-12 from the free throw line down the stretch, while Walker picked up all five of her steals in the game in the decisive quarter to help CSU complete the Big South sweep.
