Game Notes of Interest
Senior Day Recognition

Charleston Southern will be recognizing 17 seniors in its pregame festivities scheduled to begin at 3:09 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The Bucs' 2019 senior class has posted a winning Big South record in each of the last five seasons, while also playing a part in the Buccaneers' 2016 Big South Championship run and FCS playoff berth. Noted among the senior class are several players vying for CSU records or climbing in the all-time standings with Kyle Reighard (all major punting categories), J.D. Sosebee (career tackles), and Kameron Brown (career receiving yards, touchdowns) all looking to make their mark in the final game of their collegiate career.

Battling for the Conference-Winning Season
CSU assured itself of its fourth consecutive .500 or better record in Big South play dating back to 2016 as the Buccaneers topped PC this past weekend. CSU has posted a 13-7 record in conference competition over the last four seasons and enter Saturday with a 3-2 mark in Big South play. CSU has posted back-to-back wins over Gardner-Webb, Hampton, and Presbyterian after starting conference competition with losses against Kennesaw State and Monmouth. CSU also posted a 25-20 win over future Big South member North Alabama back on October 19.

Going for .500
Charleston Southern is looking for its third .500 or better season over the last four years as the Buccaneers head into Saturday's contest with a 5-6 record on the season. After starting the season 0-4, the Bucs rallied back with wins in five of their last seven contests. A win on Saturday over Campbell would put CSU at 6-6 and finish the season on a high note as the Buccaneers continue their first season under the helm of head coach Autry Denson.

Kendrick Bell – Third Back with 100 rushing yards
Charleston Southern sophomore running back Kendrick Bell gave the Buccaneers another player with a 100-yard rushing effort on the season as Bell posted a career-high 20 carries for 123 yards in CSU's win over Presbyterian. Bell broke loose for a 42-yard pick-up early in the first quarter to set up the Bucs' first touchdown of the game. He added a pair of 20-yard pickups later in the fourth quarter to help the Bucs chew up the clock and retain possession against the Blue Hose defense. Bell's previous high on the season was two carries for two yards against Kennesaw State. Ronnie Harris (120 yards at The Citadel) and Jamari Dunbar (123 yards at North Alabama) have also posted 100-yard rushing efforts for the Bucs offense this season. CSU has rushed for at least 140 yards on seven different occasions this season, but have yet to post a 100-yard rusher at home in 2019.

Kameron Brown Back in the End Zone
CSU redshirt senior Kameron Brown was back in the end zone on Saturday afternoon as the Graniteville, S.C. native recorded his seventh touchdown reception of the year in the Bucs' win over Presbyterian. Brown's 28-yard reception on the fade route from Darius Douglas gave CSU the 14-0 lead over the Blue Hose in the eventual 27-7 win over the Blue Hose. Brown has posted touchdown catches in five of the nine games he's lined up in this season, including two each against Gardner-Webb and North Carolina A&T. Brown enters Saturday's game tied for second all-time in the CSU receiving annals with 15 career touchdown receptions, equaling the mark set by Gerald Stevenson from 2007-10. He sits just four touchdown catches behind Maurice Price (19, 2004-06) for best all-time in program history. He is also currently sixth all-time in career receiving yards with 1,628 over his career with the Bucs. He sits 56 yards behind Nathan Perera (1,684, 2010-15) for fifth all-time in career receiving yards at CSU.

Twenty (20) Different Receivers
Charleston Southern hit another receiving mark as Cayden Jordan made his return to the football field on Saturday afternoon. The redshirt freshman receiver became the 20th different Buccaneer to haul in a pass this season with a two-yard catch in the first quarter on a screen pass from Darius Douglas. Over the past month, the mark has extended with Travay Hatten (North Alabama), Ben Harris (Monmouth), Buchi Nwaubi (Gardner-Webb), and now Jordan (Presbyterian) all picking up their first catches of the season. The Bucs receivers will have their work cut out for them on Saturday as Campbell enters the game boasting the top pass defense in the Big South allowing just 179.3 yards per game through the air. CSU leads the Big South with 384 pass attempts, so it will be a battle of strengths on the field between the two teams.

Offensive Line Continuing to Churn
Saturday will be the final game for offensive line cornerstones Zack Evans and Stephen Haralambis. The duo were featured on CSUSports.com earlier this season (Veteran Linemen Value Family in Football) and have continued the trend of CSU offensive linemen that have earned preseason and postseason recognition for the Bucs. The CSU offensive linemen help an offensive unit that has posted 142.5 rushing yards per game and 11 touchdowns on the ground, while blocking for three different 100-yard running backs on the season. The offensive line has also been key to keeping their quarterbacks upright this season as CSU sits 58th in FCS in sacks allowed on the year at 2.09 per game. The Bucs line has featured seven different players this season with starters Daviyon McDaniel, Evans, JT Melton, Haralambis, and Preston Nichols having been joined ably this season by Bailey Ottaway and Ben Moxley in relief efforts.

Douglas and Chambers Combo
Charleston Southern offensive coordinator Felton Huggins introduced a new wrinkle in the CSU offense in the first half against Presbyterian as the Bucs featured both quarterbacks in their arsenal in Jack Chambers and Darius Douglas. The duo swapped possessions throughout the first half and were able to showcase their various skillsets in building the 21-0 halftime lead over the Blue Hose. Chambers and Douglas have both swapped time on the field over the last two games and will likely both see the field on Saturday as the Bucs will look to take advantage of the Campbell defense on both the ground and in the air. Chambers saw the majority of the snaps on Saturday and put the Bucs on the board with a six-yard touchdown pass to Jaquan Williams, while Douglas' 28-yard touchdown pass to Kameron Brown helped CSU take advantage of a special teams turnover for the score. Campbell is susceptible on the ground to running quarterbacks, surrendering 232.4 rushing yards per game on the season, and with both CSU quarterbacks showcasing the ability to scramble, the Bucs could be in for a good game on Saturday afternoon.

Chambers – Big South Leaders, Climbing the CSU Records
CSU's primary quarterback for the 2019 season, Jack Chambers continues to dot the Big South leaders in multiple offensive categories, while also climbing in the Charleston Southern record books. Chambers enters Saturday's game sitting fifth in the conference with 206.9 yards of total offense per game, while sitting sixth in the Big South with 164.5 passing yards per game. Chambers is sixth in touchdown passes (10), third in completions (174), and fifth in completion percentage (57.2%) on the season. Chambers' 1,810 passing yards this season are eighth-most in CSU history, while his 10 touchdown passes sit just outside the top-10 in program history. His 12 career passing touchdowns tie him for ninth all-time in career passing touchdowns at CSU, while his 2,054 career passing yards are good for eighth all-time with the Bucs, heading into the final game of the 2019 season.

Sack Record in Sights
There are three Big South teams throughout conference history to achieve 30 team sacks in a single season. All three of those seasons belong to Charleston Southern. The Buccaneers set the initial mark of 31 back in 2002 with Jonathan West leading the pack in the inaugural Big South season with five sacks on the year. The Bucs 2017 team established a new Big South mark when Anthony Ellis posted 9.0 sacks in leading the Buccaneers to a 34-sack mark to set the new conference standard. Paced by their standout performance throughout the month of November, the Bucs enter the final game of 2019 with 32 team sacks. The Bucs have been on-fire this month in getting to the quarterback, starting with a 6.0 sack game at Gardner-Webb back on November 2. Since then, CSU posted back-to-back 7.0 sack games against both Hampton (Nov. 9) and Presbyterian (Nov. 16) to lead the Big South in the category heading into the final game. Shaundre Mims (9.0) leads the Bucs and the Big South in sacks this season, while Anton Williams (7.0) is currently sitting behind his teammate in the conference standings. Nick Salley (5.0) is also in the top-five, while Eishuan Funnye (3.5) is sitting just outside the conference leaders in the category. The Bucs have posted sacks in nine of the 11 games played this season and have posted at least four sacks on five different occasions. Campbell's offense is currently 105th in FCS and sixth in the Big South in sacks allowed on the season with 2.80 per game.

Big South Leaders – Multiple Categories
It would not be a Big South season without multiple Buccaneers at the top, or challenging for the top in multiple defensive categories. The Bucs have the top two players in individual sacks and tackles for loss, the conference leader in forced fumbles, players in the top-two in fumbles recovered and passes defended, and players in the top-five in the individual position tackling numbers. Paced by strong Novembers so far, Shaundre Mims (9.0) and Anton Williams (7.0) lead the Big South in sacks on the season, while Williams doubles up as the conference leader with 16.0 tackles for loss over his nine games in action in 2019. Nick Salley (15.0 TFL) is second in the tackles for loss category after leading the Big South for a majority of the season. The redshirt senior does lead the conference with three forced fumbles on the year. Williams and Evan Cruz are currently the runners-up in the fumbles recovered and passes defended categories with Williams (2) recovering two fumbles, while Cruz has broken up 12 passes and posted an interception this season. Salley (5.9, DL), Cody Cline (6.2, DB), and J.D. Sosebee (8.6, LB), are all among the conference tackling leaders at their positions.

Sosebee Tackling the Top Five
J.D. Sosebee has a nose for the football, and that has never been more evident than this season as the redshirt senior continues his march to sit among CSU's all-time leaders in the category. The Gainesville, Ga. native's 95 tackles heading into Saturday's game sit him 10th all-time in a single season for the Bucs and he could become just the seventh player in program history with 100 tackles in a single season with five on Saturday. He would become the first CSU player to eclipse the century mark since Jada Ross back in 2007. His eight tackles this past Saturday against Presbyterian also moved him into fifth-place all-time in CSU's career tackling rankings as he finished the day with 285 career stops. He is currently one tackle behind former teammate Solomon Brown (286, 2015-18) for fourth all-time, seven behind Coy Browning (292, 1991-93) for third, and 10 behind Jonna Lee (295, 2003-07) for second-place. Sosebee has four double-digit tackling efforts this season and 11 for his career as he continues to advance up the Bucs' all-time list.

November for CSU Defense
Charleston Southern's defense is on a historic pace through the month of November as the Buccaneers have found a way into the backfield in every single game against Gardner-Webb, Hampton, and Presbyterian. Three of the top-10 sack efforts in program history have happened over the last three games, while the Bucs have also put up double-digit tackle for loss numbers in each of the last two contests. The Bucs started the domination trend in the backfield in the October finale against Monmouth when CSU sacked MU quarterback Kenji Bahar four times and picked up eight tackles for loss. When the calendar turned to the final month of the regular season, the Bucs took off. Six sacks and nine tackles for loss, as well as five turnovers forced against Gardner-Webb. Seven sacks, 15.0 tackles for loss and four turnovers forced against Hampton. Seven sacks, 11.0 tackles for loss and four more turnovers forced against Presbyterian. CSU's numbers over the last month have thrust the Bucs into the top-10 in the nation in team sacks (32), while also sitting 13th in team tackles for loss (86.0).

Cruz-ing the Defensive Backs
Senior defensive back Evan Cruz has etched his name among the Charleston Southern all-time leaders in passes defended as the Viera, Fla. native heads into Saturday's game tied with Malcolm Jackson (2015) and Shadarius Hopkins (2017) for the most passes broken up in a single season in CSU history. Cruz enters Saturday with 12 pass break-ups on the season, to go with his first collegiate interception against Hampton, as the Bucs leader in the secondary. He currently trails only Hampton's Christian Angulo (13) in the passes broken up category this season with one game to play for the two athletes. Cruz has posted at least one break-up in each of the last seven games and eight of the last nine, and has three games with multiple break-ups on the season. Cruz's ball-hawking skills have been mirrored by the defensive backs with Darin Smalls (3 INT), Tavian Montgomery (1 INT, 3 PBUs), and Cody Cline (1 INT, 5 PBUs) all having showcased their ability to break on the ball this season.

J-Mac Finds the Ball
Redshirt sophomore linebacker Justin McIntire was the recipient of not one, but two turnovers recovered on Saturday afternoon against the Blue Hose. McIntire recorded his second interception of the season, while adding his second fumble recovery on the year to overtake the team's individual lead on turnovers heading into the final game of the year. Darin Smalls (3 INT), J.D. Sosebee (2 INT, 1 FR), and Anton Williams (1 INT, 2 FR), all have posted three turnovers recovered on the year and had been vying for the team title until McIntire's breakout game against the Blue Hose. Campbell has turned the ball over 15 times this season with 10 coming in the last four games dating back to October 26. Over that same time span, CSU has forced 14 turnovers to pace the Big South during the stretch. The Bucs will look to attack the ball on Saturday afternoon in the season finale against the Camels as they will attempt to extend their conference lead in interceptions (13), while sitting second in fumble recoveries (10) behind Monmouth (12).

Usry – Three-Time Award Winner
Usry earns Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the third time in the 2019 season after previously receiving recognition against both Kennesaw State and North Alabama. Usry had another record-setting day as the redshirt sophomore placekicker was perfect in all five of his attempts on Saturday afternoon in CSU's win over PC. Usry drilled field goals of 51 and 42 yards in the second half to help the Bucs pull away from the Blue Hose, while he was also a perfect 3-for-3 in extra points. Usry's 51-yard field goal into the wind was his third 50-plus yard field goal of the season, moving him behind only Liberty's John Lunsford (5, 2014) and Lunsford again (4, 2015). His 17th field goal of the season, the 42-yard conversion in the fourth quarter, established a new CSU single season record surpassing John Paglia's mark of 16 set back in 2009.

Reighard Fighting the Big South Leaders
CSU redshirt senior punter Kyle Reighard enters his final game of his collegiate career holding onto the narrow lead in average yards per punt as the Buccaneers host the Camels on Saturday afternoon. Reighard (42.7) leads five Big South punters averaging at least 41.0 yards per attempt this season with North Alabama's Joe Gurley (42.4), Campbell's Brad Dennis (42.3), and Gardner-Webb's Jack Pawloski (42.2) all sitting within striking distance of Reighard. The Salem, Va. native leads the Big South with 16 punts over 50 yards, having established the new Big South career record in the category earlier this season. He is also the only punter in the conference to have a punt travel more than 70 yards after his 72-yard connection against Savannah State earlier this season. Reighard's career average of 41.6 yards per attempt is currently the CSU career standard in the category and is second all-time in Big South history for punters with more than 150 attempts in their career.
