Rivals For the Final Time
Charleston Southern and Presbyterian matchup as Big South rivals for the final time this season as the Buccaneers head to Clinton, S.C. this Saturday. PC is in their final stretch of games as full football-playing members of the Big South before moving to the non-scholarship Pioneer League starting in the 2020 season. The Bucs and Blue Hose series dates back to 1993 with the two teams lining up every season since CSU became an official NCAA football playing institution. PC leads the all-time series, 14-11, while CSU has won each of the last three contests.

Battling for a Conference-Winning Season
CSU is looking to post its fourth consecutive.500 or better record in Big South play dating back to 2016 as the Buccaneers head to PC this weekend. CSU has posted a 12-7 record in conference competition over the last four seasons and enter Saturday with a 2-2 mark in Big South play. CSU has posted back-to-back wins over Gardner-Webb and Hampton after starting conference competition with losses against Kennesaw State and Monmouth. CSU also posted a 25-20 win over future Big South member North Alabama back on October 19.

Big South Play Continues
Charleston Southern is 24-30 all-time in Big South Conference play dating back to the inception of the league in 2002. The Bucs have posted 11 of the 24 wins against Presbyterian, while adding seven wins over Gardner-Webb dating back to their first matchup. CSU is undefeated against both Campbell (2-0) and Hampton (2-0). CSU has posted all-time losing marks against Kennesaw State (1-3), Monmouth (1-3), PC (11-14) and Gardner-Webb (7-10). The Bucs are also 1-0 against North Alabama as the Lions will be joining the Big South as full members in 2022.

Darius Douglas Makes An Impact
Darius Douglas entered the game in the second quarter and completely turned the game around in CSU's overtime win against Hampton. The Moncks Corner, S.C. native entered the contest with CSU trailing 13-3 and led the Bucs to a touchdown drive in the second quarter with the redshirt sophomore going up the middle for the one-yard TD plunge. His 17-yard touchdown run in the third quarter gave CSU their first lead of the game and capped a six-play, 91-yard drive that was highlighted by a 42-yard pass from Douglas to Tyree Baptiste. He led the Bucs on the game-tying drive in the fourth quarter that led to an Alex Usry 37-yard field goal to send the game into overtime. On 3rd-and-9 in overtime, Douglas found Garris Schwarting over the middle for the 24-yard touchdown pass to put CSU ahead in the eventual win. He finished with 174 passing yards and 45 rushing yards in his 2019 debut.

Welcome to the 100-Club
Demetrius Jones became the third Buccaneer wide receiver to hit the 100-yard receiving mark this season as the sophomore hauled in three passes for a career-high 117 yards. Jones hauled in a 59-yard reception in the first quarter to start his day and set up an early Alex Usry field goal. His 52-yard reception from Darius Douglas in the second quarter set up CSU's first touchdown of the day as Douglas took it across the end zone on the next play to cut the lead down to 13-10. Jones joins Kameron Brown (two) and Garris Schwarting (one) among CSU's 100-yard receiving yard producers this season. His 117 yards were the most by a CSU receiver since Schwarting eclipsed the century mark against Kennesaw State. Jones is one of nine different CSU receivers with at least 10 catches this season, while his 203 receiving yards put him fifth on the team.

Schwarting-Time Continues
In a season full of big plays for senior wide receiver Garris Schwarting, the Goose Creek native came up with his biggest yet in CSU's 27-20 overtime win over Hampton. Schwarting was having a quiet evening with one catch for seven yards prior to the overtime period. However, he came through as Darius Douglas threaded the needle on 3rd-and-long on CSU's possession in the overtime period as Schwarting caught the 24-yard touchdown pass through two defenders to put the Bucs ahead 27-20. Schwarting has made an impact this season with a career-high 28 receptions and sits second on the team with 415 receiving yards on the year. Schwarting is also second on the Bucs with four touchdown receptions. He posted his first collegiate 100-yard receiving effort with 131 yards and a touchdown against Kennesaw State. He's also posted at least four receptions in three different games this year.

Finding the Running Game
Charleston Southern has struggled to find the rushing game several times this season and this past Saturday was no exception. The Buccaneers were limited to 44 yards on 33 carries, but did pick up two rushing touchdowns as Darius Douglas scored from one-yard and 17-yards out in the game. CSU has been held under 100 yards rushing on four different occasions and under 50-yards twice. However, the Bucs have been able to find their stride in Big South play with two games of over 140 yards, including 148 yards and a pair of touchdowns against Gardner-Webb. Quarterback Jack Chambers leads the Bucs' rushing efforts with 416 yards and six touchdowns, while Ronnie Harris (396) and Terrence Wilson (243) are also among the Bucs' top rushers on the season.

Converting the Third Downs
Charleston Southern continues to find a way to make third down conversions this season as the Buccaneers once again converted at least 33.0% of their attempts this past Saturday. CSU was 6-of-17 on third downs against the Pirates and came up with a pair of clutch conversions on the Bucs' final drive of the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime. CSU posted a season-high 10 third down conversions against Kennesaw State earlier this season and has converted at least four times in each of the four Big South games this year. In the Bucs' wins, CSU is 25-of-61 (41.0%) on third downs on their way to topping Savannah State, North Alabama, Gardner-Webb, and Hampton.

Chambers Continues to Sit Among Conference Leaders
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Jack Chambers continues to sit among the Big South's leaders in multiple categories on the season including total offense and passing.  The redshirt sophomore heads into Saturday's matchup sitting fifth in the Big South with 213.6 total yards of offense per game, while sitting third in the conference with 368 offensive plays this season. Chambers is sixth in the Big South with 171.7 passing yards per game and nine passing touchdowns. Chambers is fourth in the conference with a 57.4% completion percentage with the conference's third-most pass attempts (284). He has shined in several key situations this season with a trio of 200-yard passing efforts, as well as three 90-yard rushing games. Chambers has also posted at least 20 completions in four different games this season.

Nick Salley Domination
Redshirt senior BUC Nick Salley has been dominant from start to finish this season. The Walterboro, S.C. native has posted tackles for loss in eight of the 10 games this season to lead the Big South in the category with 15.0 on the year. Salley looks to make it back-to-back seasons for a CSU player to lead the Big South in the category following former All-American Solomon Brown (15.5, 2018). Salley has posted at least two tackles for loss on four separate occasions, including a career-high 3.0 TFL against both Furman and Gardner-Webb. He's also added five sacks on the year with three coming in the last two weeks against Gardner-Webb and Hampton. Salley leads all Big South defensive linemen on the year with 6.4 tackles per game and sits third among CSU players in the category on the year. Salley has also forced three fumbles in 2019 to lead the Bucs.

Anton Williams Claims Player of the Week Honors
Charleston Southern defensive end Anton Williams earned Big South Defensive Player of the Week honors as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. The junior posted a career-high 4.5 tackles for loss and added a late fumble recovery in the CSU 27-20 overtime win over Hampton this past Saturday. Williams posted six solo stops among his nine tackles in the game. He posted his first tackle for loss on the Hampton opening drive and added two more in the second quarter. He picked up his lone sack in the third quarter that ended a Hampton drive on the CSU side of the field. In the overtime period, Williams came through with a huge play as he scooped up the loose ball and recovered the fumble on fourth down to end the game and secure the CSU win. For the season, Williams sits second in the Big South in tackles for loss with 13.5, trailing only teammate Salley (15.0). He is also ranked sixth in the conference with 5.0 sacks on the year and second with two fumble recoveries.

Quarterback Sack
Charleston Southern has been cranking up the quarterback pressure since the start of Big South Conference play as the Buccaneers have posted a combined 17.0 sacks over the last three weeks. The total moves the Bucs into second in the conference standings with 25 sacks over the 10 games on the year. Defensive tackle Shaundre Mims tied a CSU single game record with 3.0 sacks and currently leads the Big South with seven sacks on the season. Defensive ends Nick Salley (5.0) and Anton Williams (5.0) are both tied for fourth in the conference in sacks on the year as CSU continues to keep climbing in the NCAA rankings. CSU enters the weekend 37th in FCS in total team sacks and is averaging 2.5 sacks per game. CSU faces a tough task in getting after the quarterback this weekend as Presbyterian sits second in the conference in allowing just 14 sacks on the season, good for 24th in the country in sack prevention.

No Funnye Business
Defensive tackle Eishuan Funnye became the third Charleston Southern defensive lineman to hit double-digits in the tackles for loss category this season with a key play in the overtime win against Hampton. The Hemingway, S.C. native posted a strip-sack on the final play of the game against the Pirates with Anton Williams jumping on the ball to close out the Buccaneers' win. Funnye's sack gave him 3.5 for the season, while his two tackles for loss in the contest moved him up to a career-high 10.0 on the year. The trio of Bucs with double-digit tackles for loss on the season are a Big South high as no other team has more than a single player in double-digits. Funnye, combined with Salley and Williams, have combined for 38.5 tackles for loss on the season which puts them ahead of Kennesaw State trio Desmond Johnson (12.0), Kareem Taylor (9.5), and Joel Parker (8.5) which has recorded 30.0 on the year.

Cruz-ing to the Ball
Redshirt junior defensive back Evan Cruz has continued his ball-hawking ways this season as the Viera, Fla. native has been a mainstay for the Charleston Southern defensive backfield in 2019. Returning as the "old man" of the group in terms of playing time, Cruz has shined in his cornerback position with pass breakups in seven of the Bucs' 10 games this season, including three games with multiple pass breakups. Cruz highlighted this past game against Hampton with two PBU's, including his first interception of the season to help pilot the Bucs to the 27-20 win over the Pirates. He's recorded at least one break-up in each of the last six games, including a pair each against Monmouth and Hampton. Overall, CSU's pass defense has come alive over the last few games with nine interceptions over the last four contests. The Bucs are tied for the Big South lead with 11 interceptions on the year and face a team that has a tendency to cough up the ball through the air. PC is tied for seventh in the Big South with 12 interceptions thrown this season.

Sosebee Tackles Continue
Redshirt senior linebacker J.D. Sosebee continues to lead the Buccaneers' tackling efforts this season as he climbs the all-time tackling rankings. Sosebee's 13 tackles on Saturday moved him into sixth all-time in CSU's career tackling standings as he moved past Dennis Hamilton (271, 1991-94) with 273 career tackles over his four-year career. It was his 10th career double-digit tackling performance and fourth of the season as the two-time All-Conference selection continues to stake his claim as one of the top linebackers in program history. Sosebee has been efficient this season with the Gainesville, Ga. native posting a sack, a forced fumble, and his first two collegiate interceptions. He is currently fourth in the Big South with 8.7 tackles per game.

Reighard in the Fight
Charleston Southern redshirt senior punter Kyle Reighard has a task ahead of him over the final two weeks of the regular season as the Salem, Va. native currently sits fourth in the Big South in punting at 42.7 yards per attempt. In a season with five of the six Big South punters averaging over 41.0 yards per punt, it's been a tight race for the battle of top punter in the conference. Reighard has already staked his claim with a Big South-leading 72-yard punt set back on October 5 against Savannah State, while he also set the career mark for 50-yard punts earlier this season. Reighard leads the Big South with 15 punts of at least 50 yards this season and is currently second in the conference with 18 punts pinned inside the 20-yard line.

Usry Chasing History
Alex Usry continues to chase CSU and Big South conference single season history as the redshirt sophomore enters Saturday's contest with 15 field goals. Usry is currently one field goal shy of the CSU single season mark set by John Paglia (16) back in the 2009 season. He is also seven field goals shy of the mark set by Liberty's Matt Bevins (22) established back in 2009. Usry did enter the Big South's top-10 all-time this past Saturday with his pair of conversions against Hampton to sit in a five-way tie for ninth in field goals made by a Big South placekicker in conference history. He also leads all placekickers in scoring per game this season with 7.8 points per game hitting 15-of-21 field goals and 17-of-18 extra points. He has averaged three attempts per game this season since making his debut against The Citadel and has connected on multiple field goals on five different occasions, including a school-record 52-yard attempt at North Alabama.
