Charleston, S.C. - A hit batter with the bases loaded allowed Charleston Southern to score their fourth run of the ninth inning and compete their 5-4 comeback win over Georgia on Monday night.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth and two outs, Cole German stepped in for his first at bat of the game. The first pitch German saw went straight into his back, bringing home Jordan Bridges from third and capping a walk-off win for CSU. 

The Bucs trailed 4-1 when they entered the bottom of the ninth. Alex Andronica reached on an error to start the inning. After Kyle Vesnesky's single, a strikeout marked the first out of the frame. Mike Sconzo's liner to right center field brought home Andronica and put Sconzo on base. Jason Miller walked to load the bases and brought up Aaron Miller. Miller grounded up the middle to get an RBI, but a flip to second got Georgia their second out of the inning. The next batter, Ryan Stoudemire, walked to set the table for the freshman, Ryan Rizk. He grounded just past the outstretched glove of the pitcher and into center field to tie the game.

CSU scored their first run of the game in the eighth, when Rizk hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Sconzo. Prior to that, the Bucs had no runs on five hits. They would score four runs on three hits in the ninth inning.

Cody Smith (1-0) was credited with the win for CSU. He threw two scoreless innings with two hits and five strikeouts.

Will Proctor (2-2) took the loss for Georgia, pitching one third of an inning and allowing four unearned runs, on two hits, one walk, and one strikeout.

News & Notes

• This win marks the first time CSU has won two Power 5 games in a season since 2005, when the Bucs beat Florida and Kentucky.
• The Bucs have now won two straight matchups with teams from the SEC. CSU topped South Carolina on February 25th. Charleston Southern is also 2-2 against teams from the SEC this year.
• The Bucs scored four runs in the ninth inning, setting a season high for runs in an inning.
• CSU walked-off for the second time this season. They walked off on Savannah State on February 27.
