LOS ANGELES, Calif. - No. 13 UCLA utilized an eight run second inning to top visiting Charleston Southern on the second day of the Stacy Winseberg Invitational as the Buccaneers fell to the host Bruins on Saturday afternoon at Easton Stadium, 9-0.

Jade Gandara and Stephanie Bergmann both connected on singles for CSU (9-7) during the game as the Bucs were unable to score against the UCLA (11-8) duo of Johanna Grauer and Selina Ta'amilo.

Hayley Elkins (4-5) suffered the loss for the Bucs on the afternoon after going 1.1 innings and allowing five runs (four earned). Arizona Pilgrim pitched the final 2.2 innings after getting CSU out of the jam in the bottom of the second inning to close out the contest.

Gandara ripped a single to right field in her first at-bat in the top of the first inning, but the Bucs were unable to build on the early hit as CSU was hold scoreless in the first.

In the bottom half of the inning, Kylee Perez singled in Allexis Bennett to put the Bruins on the board with the early 1-0 lead.

After CSU went down in order in the second, UCLA sent 12 batters to the plate in breaking the game wide open. The Bruins were aided by four walks and two hit by pitches in the inning with Paige Halstead coming up with the big hit for UCLA with a bases-loaded double scoring three runs to stake the home team to the 9-0 lead.

Bergmann attempted to start the rally in the top of the fifth inning with a line drive single to right centerfield. However, the UCLA defense took over as Halstead was able to snag the hard line drive off the bat of Georgi DeLio and double Bergmann off first to seal the Bruins' win.

Charleston Southern continues the Stacy Winseberg Invitational tomorrow morning as the Buccaneers make the trip to Cal State Northridge and Matador Diamond. CSU opens against UC Santa Barbara at 9 a.m. PST/Noon EST, before taking on host Northridge at 3 p.m. PST/6 p.m. EST.
