West Virginia takes series finale from Buccaneers, 3-0

CHARLESTON, S.C – West Virginia's B.J. Myers held Charleston Southern to five hits over eight innings to carry the Mountaineers to a 3-0 win on Sunday morning at Joe Riley Park. The win also gave WVU a 2-1 edge in the series after CSU took Friday's opener.

Myers (W, 1-0) struck out five and held CSU to five singles and a lone walk. Blake Smith pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his first save.

WVU had 12 and added two insurance runs in the ninth on RBI doubles by Jimmy Galusky and Kyle Davis. The Mountaineers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fifth on CSU starter Jon Piriz' on an RBI single by Kyle Davis. 

The Bucs ran into some hard luck, hitting into three double plays, including a line out and step on the bag  off the bat of Bryan Dye with the Bucs threatening in the first. OF Sly Edwards was 1-for-2 for the Bucs and reached base twice.

The loss spoiled a solid start Jon Piriz (L, 0-1), who held WVU to an earned run and six hits in 5.1 innings of work.

CSU plays twice in the midweek. The Bucs host College of Charleston on Tuesday and Jacksonville on Wednesday.  Both games are at 6 p.m. at CSU Ballpark.
