WVU works past Bucs in series finale, 8-0

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Chad Donato pitched a complete game shutout to fire West Virginia past Charleston Southern in the series finale on Sunday, 8-0, at CONSOL Energy Park.

Donato (W, 4-3) held the Bucs to five hits and struck out four without issuing a walk. The

Mountaineers scored two runs in the first and added three more in the fourth to give Donato early run support. 

Starter Kyle McDorman (L, 1-3) struck out four in 3.1 innings of work, but hit the first two batters of the game to lead to WVU's two runs in the first. Joe Pistacchio and Dylan Lee both tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

WVU's Shaun Wood hit a solo home run in the fifth and finished 2-for-3 and scored three times to lead the Mountaineers. 

WVU outhit the Bucs only 8-5, but CSU walked four batters and hit four more. 

Ryan Maxsim was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles in the loss. 

CSU is off during the midweek before hosting Liberty in Big South play. The series with the Flames runs Thursday-Saturday at CSU Ballpark. Thursday's first pitch is at 6 p.m.
