COLUMBIA, S.C. - Charleston Southern fell to host South Carolina on Sunday, dropping a pair of doubles matches before falling in singles play as the Buccaneers fell 7-0 to the Gamecocks at the Carolina Tennis Center.
CSU falls to 1-3 overall on the season with the loss, while South Carolina improves to 2-0 with the victory.
The Buccaneers fell on courts no. 1 and 2 to open the action in doubles play as Alia Nour and Angelica Sidorenko dropped a 6-0 decision to Brigit Folland and Katerina Popova on court no. 2. Yvonne Hubler and Alexandra Walters fell 6-1 to Meghan Blevins and Elixane Lechemia to wrap up the doubles competition on court no. 1, halting play on court no. 3 where Marketa Placha and Nicolin Luecke held the 5-2 lead over Carolina Dailey and Dominika Kanakova.
With the 1-0 lead in hand, South Carolina took all six singles matches to pick up their second win of the season as the Gamecocks swept the Buccaneers.
Dailey picked up the second point of the day for USC with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Sidorenko on court no. 6, while Blevins topped Luecke on court no. 4 6-2, 6-2 to put the Gamecocks within one point of the win. Walters put up a fight for CSU on court no. 3, but #118-ranked Folland topped the CSU senior to put the Gamecocks over the top with the 6-3, 6-0 victory.
Charleston Southern continues the 2014 regular season as the Buccaneers host South Carolina State next weekend at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex. First serve in doubles play between CSU and the Bulldogs is set for 1 p.m.
