Hubler picks up win in CSU loss to N.C. State

RALEIGH, N.C. - Yvonne Hubler picked up the lone point for Charleston Southern on Saturday afternoon as the Buccaneers fell on the road in non-conference action against #47 North Carolina State, 6-1.

Hubler rallied back from a first set deficit in picking up the lone win on the afternoon for Charleston Southern inside the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center as the junior from Nordenham, Germany, topped Joelle Kissell. Hubler fell in the first set, 6-0, but rallied back to force a third set with a 7-6 (8-6) win in the second frame. In the deciding set, Hubler took control early in topping Kissell 6-1 to cut the CSU deficit down to 3-1, but N.C. State took the final three singles matches in closing out the win.

Charleston Southern falls to 1-2 overall on the season, while N.C. State improves to 4-0 with the victory.

The teams opened the afternoon in doubles action with the Wolfpack picking up wins on courts 1 and 2 to take the first point of the match.

Alexandra Walters and Hubler fell on court no. 1 to Kissell and Sophie Nelson, dropping the match 8-2. Liza Fieldsent and Rachael James-Baker topped Alia Nour and Angelica Sidorenko on court no. 2, 8-5. The third match between CSU's Marketa Placha/Nicolin Luecke and Christy Sipes/Natalia Janowicz went unfinished when the Wolfpack picked up the doubles victory.

In singles play, Placha fell to James-Baker in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 on court no. 2, while Fieldsend topped Luecke on court no. 4 to put the Wolfpack ahead 3-0 with the 6-2, 7-5 victory.

Hubler halted the N.C. State winning streak with her three-match win on court no. 1, but Nicole Martinez clinched the Wolfpack win with the 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-1 win on court no. 3.

Nelson topped Mi'Kola Cooper 6-4, 6-3 on court no. 5, while Gabriela Srodowski fell to Janowicz on court no. 6 to wrap up the afternoon, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Charleston Southern returns to action tomorrow morning as the Buccaneers take on South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. First serve in doubles play against the Gamecocks is set for 10 a.m.
