Bucs down Chanticleers in Big South finale, 6-1

CONWAY, S.C. - Alia Nour and Alexandra Walters both completed perfect seasons in Big South singles action this season as the junior duo both won on Wednesday afternoon at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center as Charleston Southern closed out the 2013 Big South regular season with a 6-1 victory over Coastal Carolina.

Charleston Southern improves to 12-5, 8-1 in Big South action with the win, while Coastal Carolina falls to 10-9 overall, 5-3 in conference action.

Angelica Sidorenko clinched the Buccaneers victory with a straight sets win over Shelby Bates on court no. 3 as Charleston Southern won two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches in picking up their eighth Big South win of the season.

Walters and Yvonne Hubler ran their record to 9-0 in Big South Conference doubles action as the duo picked up the first win of the day for the Bucs. The Bucs duo combined to top Alicia Robinson and Mikaela Davies on court no. 2, 8-1.

The Chanticleers battled back to even doubles play as Dominique De Wit and Libby Scott topped Susita Das and Marketa Placha on court no. 3, 8-2.

Nour and Sidorenko closed out the Bucs doubles' win, defeating Kortney Kowal and Bates on court no. 1, putting CSU ahead with their 8-4 victory.

Moving into singles play, Charleston Southern picked up the first three wins to clinch the overall match victory over the host Chants.

Hubler began the winning streak on court no. 2, picking up her 10th win of the season in straight sets over Davies. The Nordenham, Germany, native topped her opponent 6-3, 6-2 to put the Bucs ahead, 2-0.

Nour finished soon after, topping Kowal on court no. 5, 6-3, 6-3, while Sidorenko clinched the Bucs win with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Bates.

Scott ended the Bucs winning streak and put the Chanticleers on the board on court no. 1, defeating Placha in three sets. The duo battled with Placha taking the first set 7-5, while Scott rallied back with a 6-0 win in the second set. The third set tiebreaker was taken by Scott, 10-5.

The Bucs took victories in the final two matches as Walters topped Alicia Robinson, 7-5, 6-1, and Das defeated De Wit, 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 on court no. 6.
