LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty's Danny Grauer delivered with a pinch
hit three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to provide all
of the Flames' offense in a 3-1 win over Charleston Southern on
Sunday afternoon.
The win sends Liberty to a weekend sweep of the Buccaneers and
to 14-6 overall and 3-0 in Big South play. CSU falls to 8-13 and
0-3 in league play.
Grauer lifted his first home run of the year out to left off of
Bucs' reliever Austin Weekley to score first baseman Alex Close and
Trey Wimmer on the Flames' big blow. Wimmer had a leadoff double
and Close drew a one-out walk to set the stage for Grauer.
CSU took a brief lead in the top of the seventh as John
Faircloth reached with a leadoff double and scored on an RBI ground
out by Chase Shelton. Faircloth had two of the Bucs three hits on
the day.
Liberty starter Trey Lambert (WP, 4-0) held the Bucs to three
hits and struck out six in a complete-game effort.
CSU's Tory Schroff (LP, 3-1) lost for the first time this
season. He scattered four hits and struck out four in 6.2 innings
of work.
Liberty out hit the Bucs, 6-3, and the two combined to leave
only eight on base.
Charleston Southern returns to action on Wednesday against UNC
Wilmington. First pitch is at 7 p.m. in Wilmington, N.C.
CSU faces The CItadel in a three-game series beginning on
Friday. The two teams alternate home games on the weekend, playing
Friday and Sunday at Riley Park. Saturday's game is at CSU
Ballpark. Friday's first pitch is at 6 p.m., with Saturday's first
pitch coming at 2 p.m.
