LONG BEACH, Calif. - Jana Matthews broke the career RBI record for the Buccaneers against Idaho State in the opener as Charleston Southern fell to the Bengals and no. 9 UCLA on Sunday afternoon at the Mayfair Invitational.

Charleston Southern falls to 4-16 overall on the season.

The Buccaneers close out the Long Beach State Mayfair Invitational tomorrow afternoon against Bethune-Cookman University. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

Idaho State 8, Charleston Southern 5 (Box Score)

Katee Wiley drove in three runs and connected on a home run as Idaho State overcame two RBI games by both Stephanie Sbardella and Jana Matthews in recording the 8-5 victory on Sunday afternoon at the 49er Softball Complex.

Matthews passed former teammate Megan Lombard (2009-12) with a two-RBI single in the top of the fifth inning as the Buccaneers rallied to even the score at 4-all in the frame. Matthews has 115 career RBI in the Charleston Southern Blue and Gold, passing Lombard's record of 113.

Giles (1-12) pitched her 11th complete game of the season in suffering the loss, running her total up to 95.0 innings in allowing eight runs (four earned) in the loss to the Bengals.

Kelsi Ott (1-2) picked up the win for Idaho State, throwing 2.1 innings of one hit relief with four strikeouts. Amanda Fitzsimmons started the contest, going 4.2 innings with seven strikeouts before running into problems in the top of the fifth.

Idaho State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as Wiley reached on a one-out infield single. Two batters later, she stole second and came around to score on Fitzsimmons' single through the left side of the infield for the first run of the contest.

The Bengals added three more to their total in the third inning. Wiley led off the frame with a home run over the left field fence. Hailey Breakwell added an RBI single in the inning, while Micheala Taylor drove in Michaela Barr with a base hit to left field to put ISU ahead 4-0 after three innings.

Charleston Southern evened the score in the top of the fifth inning.

The Buccaneers loaded the bases with one out as Lizzy Olmstead reached on a fielder's choice, while Trea Steele singled and Jasmine Conley reached on a walk. Sbardella followed with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Olmstead and Steele to halve the ISU lead, advancing to second on the play to keep the Buccaneers in scoring position. After Christian flew out, Matthews followed with her record-breaking single, scoring Conley and Sbardella to knot the score up at 4-all.

Idaho State struck back with four runs in the fifth to retake the lead. Taylor drove in Breakwell on an RBI groundout, while Wiley did a majority of the damage with a bases-loaded single, scoring Katelyn Marquez and Becky Molyneaux. Vicky Galasso added an RBI single in the frame to double the Bengals lead to 8-4.

The Buccaneers added a late run in the sixth inning as Yonan scored on an Idaho State throwing error, but the comeback fell short as CSU fell to the Bengals.

UCLA 10, Charleston Southern 0 (5 inn.) (Box Score)

The no. 9 ranked Bruins jumped ahead early with 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning and Jessica Hall hurled a complete game no-hitter against Charleston Southern as UCLA closed out the nightcap of the evening with a 10-0 victory.

Jennifer Giles (1-13) suffered the loss in the game, allowing all seven runners who faced her to reach base and score. Linzy Rother hurled 4.0 innings in relief in the game, allowing seven hits against one strikeout.

Hall went the distance, allowing one walk while striking out six in the no-hitter.

LaRosa and Rodriguez homered in the 10-run bottom of the first inning for the Bruins, highlighting a frame in which the UCLA sent 14 batters to the plate.

LaRosa hit a two-run shot with none out in the inning, and four batters later, Rodriguez connected on a three-run blast as the Bruins went ahead 10-0.

Stephanie Sbardella was the lone CSU base runner in the contest, reaching on a walk with one out in the fourth inning, but CSU was unable to capitalize as Hall forced a double play on the next pitch in the loss.
