ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Charleston Southern tennis team saw a terrific season come to an end with a 4-1 loss to Coastal Carolina in the semifinals of the Big South Women's Tennis Championship at the Asheville Racquet Club on Friday afternoon. CSU ends the campaign with a 16-4 mark.

The Bucs defeated the Chanticleers, 4-3, to clinch the number two seed, on April 11, and the two sides got after it again in the doubles portion of play. Coastal cruised to an 8-2 win at number two doubles, but CSU evened the match with a hard-fought 8-5 victory courtesy of Alia Nour and Angelica Sidorenko at number three doubles. CSU had the doubles point within reach when Yvonne Hubler and Olga Makhova grabbed an 8-7 advantage at the top spot, Coastal's Niki Bunea and Diana Mortlock.

Makhova had her way with Bunea, 6-3, 6-1, at number one singles, to give the Bucs the upper hand there, but Coastal stormed back to win the other three completed matches. CSU lost each of those bouts in straight sets. Sidorenko and Nour had won a set each at number two and singles, respectively, but their matches were then called with both battling in the third and final set.

CSU's loss marked the final match in the accolade-filled careers of Makhova and Marija Dzakovic, the club's lone seniors. Coastal will square off against top-seeded Winthrop for the conference crown Saturday morning.
