The Runnin' Bulldogs would quickly respond. Scott Johnson singled to start the inning but was forced out at second on a Henry Rundio fielder's choice for the first out. Walt Quattlebaum singled down the left field line and Berry promptly tied the game with a two-run blast, just to the right of the scoreboard that knotted the game 2-2. Streett would single and move to second on a Bobby Ison groundout to second and then score when Jaren Sustar took a Scarborough pitch thru the middle for a single, making it 5-4 in favor of the Bucs.

After each team put one run on the board in the fifth inning, including Blake Hunt's first homerun of the year for CSU, Gardner-Webb would take the lead for good in the sixth with three unearned runs.
