Bucs Take Bite out of Runnin' Bulldogs

Box score

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Charleston Southern tennis team bounced back quickly from a tough loss to Winthrop with a 5-2 victory over Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon.

CSU (10-3, 3-1) immediately got off on the right foot by claiming all three doubles matches. Olga Makhova and Marija Dzakovic rolled to an 8-2 win at number one doubles, while the tandems of Yvonne Hubler and Alexandra Walters, and Alia Nour and Angelica Sidorenko, registered 8-5 and 8-6 wins, respectively.

Gardner-Webb (9-8, 1-4) received its only victories of the day from Alice Hopkins and Ronia Hutterli out of the number two and five slots. Hutterli's win came in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) over the Bucs Alexandra Walters, ending her brilliant 12-0 undefeated stretch to begin the campaign.

The Bucs still did more than enough to prevail in singles play as well, however, as Makhova helped set the tone from the top spot with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Erica White. Hubler, Dzakovic, and Nour also played their way to individual wins to account for the final 5-2 outcome.

Next up for CSU is a Big South match with UNC Asheville Friday at the Buccaneer Tennis Center. Competition is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
