LAKEWOOD, CA - Cal State Fullerton's Desiree Ybarra shut down the Charleston Southern offense as the Titans cruised to a 5-0 victory over the Bucs on Friday night at the Long Beach State Invitational.

Cal State Fullerton struck quickly against CSU (10-9) starter Jen Giles (2-4), tallying two runs in the first and tacking on another for a 3-0 lead in the second.

Ashley Carter drew a leadoff walk for the Titans and came home to score the night's first run on a fielder's choice. Lakewood product Eliza Crawford then rapped a RBI single to center field for a 2-0 advantage. The cushion swelled to three markers one frame later, as Adriana Martinez sent Kirsten Lambertson scurrying to the plate with an unearned run off a sacrifice bunt.

Giles was able to throw up a zero in the third, but CSF got right back at it in the fourth to push its lead to 5-0. Both came with two outs, as Giles appeared to escape damage before Tiffany Sheffler ripped a single to right field to send in two more Titans.

Ybarra was in control throughout, recording a complete-game shutout while striking out six and permitting only four hits, two walks, and a hit batsman. Giles was tagged for five runs (four earned) on seven hits and four walks over 3.2 frames, while striking out just one. Morgan Dowdy entered the circle in relief for Shane Winkler and company, and spun 2.1 innings of scoreless ball.

CSU faces its sternest test of the season Saturday against No. 17 UCLA. The Bruins have captured 12 national titles, with the most recent coming in 2010. First pitch at Mayfair Field is set for 7:30 p.m., Eastern Time.
