CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern (2-2) baseball team overcame an early 2-0 deficit and won its second straight game, beating Savannah State, 9-3, on Wednesday afternoon at CSU Ballpark.

Tiger leadoff man Darien Campbell got things started in the top of the first with a triple to right center field. Joseph McCrary would drive him home later in the inning with an RBI double to put the Tigers up 1-0.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the third, Bucs freshman Bobby Ison laced a one out double down the right field line. Jaren Sustar was then hit by a pitch and designated hitter Brian Welch would reach on an error to load the bases. Second baseman John Faircloth then singled to left scoring Ison and sophomore Zach Hagaman followed it up with a two-run single to right to give the Bucs the lead for good.

Junior college transfer Kevin Buran made his first starter for CSU, allowing two runs (one earned) in four innings of work. Buran allowed four hits, fanning two and walking one.

Freshman Austin Weekley, who prepped at nearby James Island High School, relieved Buran in the fifth. Weekley (1-0) went four innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out four in his collegiate debut.

Denis Buckley pitched a clean ninth inning for CSU striking out two of the three batters he faced.

Ison led all Buccaneer hitters going three-for-four on the day to continue his hot start to the season. Faircloth and Hagaman had two hits each while Hagaman and Welch each collected two RBI's on the afternoon. Junior Harrison Wilkins hit his first homerun of the season in the bottom of the eighth off Tiger reliever Jason Wynn.

Tommy Freeman (0-1) took the loss for Savannah State. He went four innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks.

The Bucs are back in action this Friday afternoon when they host Marshall University in the first game of a four-game series this weekend. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm at CSU Ballpark.
