CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern Buccaneers defeated the Bulldogs of UNC Ashville at a score of 7-5 and take the series 2-1. The win brings CSU's record to 17-13 (5-4, BSC). That mark being the best start through 30 games in over a decade. Leading CSU was senior Matt Still who played at the DH spot in the Bucs' lineup. Still went 3-for-4 on the day that included a two run homer in the bottom of the eighth to bolster CSU's lead.

Getting the start on the mound for Charleston Southern was senior right hander Jesse Cadenhead. His last outing was a complete game to complete the Bucs' three game series sweep of Radford last Sunday in which he struck out nine batters. Today, Cadenhead went 6.0 innings striking out three.

UNC Asheville would break the deadlock in the second inning when Patrick Koontz singled to right field scoring Nick Collazo.

The Bucs would respond with a two run inning in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead. CSU first scored on a balk that would bring the base runner home from third and advanced the runner from second to third. A single to right center from first baseman Derek Smith would score Brantley Meier from third base.

The score line would remain at 2-1 until the top of the fifth inning when the Bulldogs would plate a run. Asheville would add two more runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 4-2.

Charleston Southern would respond yet again with a rally in the seventh inning. With two men on base freshman shortstop Alex Tomasovich stung a ball just fair down the third base line, scoring two runs. This was after CSU had already plated a run earlier in the inning on a fielding error by the UNCA second basemen.

The Buccaneers would get out of a jam in the top of the eighth inning with runners on second and third base. Catcher Drew Woodall would throw out a man stealing at second for the first out. Then reliever Tyler Vick would induce a pop out for the second out, and close the inning with a strike out.

CSU would further bolster their lead in the bottom of the eighth with two run homer from designated hitter Still. The senior's second four-bagger of the season gave the Bucs a three run lead at a score of 7-4.

UNCA would threaten to make a comeback in the ninth after scoring a run on a grounder to shortstop, but CSU would record the final out of the game on a fly ball to center field.

Charleston Southern will travel to Athens, Ga. to face SEC opponent Georgia in a two game series. Game one of the series is set for Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
